Homemade soda, yay!!!
Thanks to Lauren's suggestion of the stevia extract powder blended with the erythritol, I have been making fabulous discoveries....homemade soda! I made ginger ale, starting with a basic recipe and tweaking it. Basically, i put a couple cups of hot water in the vitamix, then added a lot of fresh ginger root, a couple star anise points, and the zest of one lemon, and blended on high for like 10 minutes (the recipe said to simmer, but i skipped because the vitamix cooks it a bit, and since it makes it so small, i figure i'm getting more flavor from the ingredients), strain in cheesebag, then add sweetener to taste, around a cup. That's your syrup. keep it in the fridge and add a couple tablespoons to a glass and fill with club soda. Since i quit drinking diet soda, i've been craving something fizzy and this is sooooo good, i don't miss the diet soda one bit!!! It's refreshing and sweet and has a little bite
I just ordered sassafrass and burdock root because root beer is next baby!!! Last edited by josafeen; 04-24-2012 at 02:48 PM.. |

I wanted to add that i have tried root beer and am not super crazy about it, but a spoon of key lime juice and some sweetener is soooo good (start light on the lime at first because a subtle hint is really nice, much like 7up or sprite i think), and gingerale is still a fave
