Ouizoid's tortillas..easy, easy..
These are great and simple dimple..
It's best to use the liquid egg whites unless you have cheap eggs at your house and save the yolks for custards, etc.. One cup of egg whites 3 Tbs. psyllium husks Let this mixture sit for several minutes and stir once in a while. In a sprayed non-stick pan that has been preheated, place a couple of Tbs. of the mixture and tilt the pan to cover the bottom..Flip when top is dry, then cook for a little while and remove and repeat the process. I'm using these for chicken enchiladas tonight..So easy and good..Thanks Ouizoid..

I know nothing about psyllium husks, is it the powder? I assume plain. This sure sounds easy and low carb.
Thanks, Mindy |

So now I need to go to Trader Joes. I had it many years ago but I don't remember
if I handle it well. We shall see , I hope so. I'm going to try Charski's recipe and now this one. Do they have good foldability ladies? |

perfectly foldable. just like a tortilla. Today I had a turkey cheese rollup for lunch--yesterday I had a pouch of salmon and some queso on one. They work just like a regular tortilla and they are so so easy to make!

I would say they are super neutral in taste--so I always add some seasonings to give them a little umph. If I am doing savory, I add a blend called Nature's Seasonings, and if I am using them for sweet, I add pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon and a bit of davincis in with the eggwhites. They will taste like what you add. Otherwise, it is pretty neutral--do you agree Caroline?

Pretty neutral is right and very foldable..You could add garlic powder and maybe some Parmesan cheese and see what happens.
I bought my psyllium husks at my local food store..Years ago when I first started Atkins, I used to mix 1 Tbs. in water and drink it for fiber...This is a much more pleasant way to get your fiber for sure. I'm also thinking.....Manicotti noodles....Mix some ricotta cheese with an egg, and mozzarella cheese and stuff and fold...Then put them in a baking dish and add pour spaghetti sauce (with or without meat) over it. Or you could put a meat stuffing in the "manicotti" too.. |

Has anyone tried this with whole egg? Does it do better with just the white?

I think I got the husks, not the powder..The powder is like Metamucil..too powdery.
No serious bathroom issues for me..It doesn't have a laxative effect, KWIM? |

Right..the powder might work. Just let it sit until it absorbs the water a bit.
My husks look like wheat bran. |

Thanks ladies! Mine is the powder. Looks like fine sand. I guess the question really is...drumroll please...what would the quantity look like? I can't imagine that 2Tbsp of this would be equal to 2 Tbsp of the husks.
Hey, would you mind weighing your husk measurement on a scale? That way I could weigh mine here and shouldn't that be an equavalent way to measure? I would love to try these!!! TIA if you can ladies!!! ![]() |

I had some powder in my pantry & used 2T w/ 2 egg whites to make a savory pancake. It did not come out thin like a tortilla but I didnt mind :-). I added CO to the pan for flavor too.

I only found the powder at my local grocery store. I'm going to try this with more egg whites to thin it out a bit. Thanks Heidi you have given me a starting point.
Wish me luck. |

I gave one of these pancake/tortilla combos to my hubby w/ his Enchilada Skillet Dinner. (Hat tip to Linda, this is my favorite recipe). He thought it was just another low carb treat
I emailed my neighbor w/ suggestions for a sweet pancake. She is having major colon surgery next week & has to use metamucil every day, along w/ drinking 64 oz water. I told her to make a metamucil pancake after she quit laughing. Ideas like these that brings me to this board every day!! ![]() |

That is easy, And now that I just got back from Walmarts, got to go back and get some egg whites. I am almost out of the powdery stuff, maybe I will try the husks next time I go to the health food store.
