Liquid Stevia
Anyone make thier own liquid Stevia? I have a plant growing in my garden and had read that I could boil the leaves in water, strain and then store in the fridge. I imagine it would have to be used up rather quickly too. I'm looking for any tips or advice from anyone else that does this before I butcher this plant thanks!

If it is like any other herbaceous plant, I don't know why you could not either:a) dry either the leaves and store, or pull the whole plant, hang it upside down and dry that or b) take the leaves and freeze them, then store in the freezer and use as needed.
Here is info from Ehow.com about using it: Dried stevia is ground into a powder and used to sweeten anything that sugar normally would. One teaspoon of ground stevia is the equivalent of one cup of sugar. Stevia can be ground in a coffee grinder or with the use of a mortar and pestle. Add ¼ cup of dried stevia leaves to a cup of warm water and place in the refrigerator for 24 hours to get liquid stevia, which can be used as a sweetener for drinks. You are so right about that, it IS expensive. Yes, please let us know how this turns out. If this is true (just soaked in water), then I sure am going to plant a few next summer. And if you do soak it and it tastes like we want it to, I wonder how you preserve it? |

Here is something else I found on this site: How To Make Your Own Liquid Stevia Sweetener
If you go to this site and look down the page a little, you will see these tips: "Tips: 1.Do not squeeze filter to remove every bit of water. This adds bitterness. 2.Steeping for a longer time may add a bitter aftertaste. " So don't give up, just try again and maybe not steep for so long. ![]() |

Don't know if there is a preference but I have the NuNaturals liquid. Kind of pricey, but you use just a little at a time.

Awesome work guys. You have me wanting to grow a plant now. Are they pretty resilient plants?
