stupid recipe question.

i want to bake an apple to get applesauce (instead of buying applesauce). aside from putting an apple in the oven, and turning on the heat, is there anything else i should know? one apple should yield me enough applesauce for the week. I just use a tsp or so at a time, and no more than 3 or 4 times a week. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

I peel, core, boil with a pinch of cinnamon and splenda. Mash like a potato and cool. That's it.

Oh, and then eat.

applesauce and baked apples are two different things. you could certainly scoop out a spoonful of a baked apple, but generally people chop the apple up finely and cook it in a pan for applesauce.

This is how I've always made apple sauce. If you want really fine sauce (vs a chunky sauce) put the sauce in a blender or food processor.

You've got me curious. How are you using a teaspoon of applesauce?

I make mine in the microwave. I peel and chop the apples, add some sweetener, cinnamon and sometimes a little butter. I nuke them, covered with a lid or plastic wrap, until the apples are tender and then I mash them up a bit if I don't want it so chunky. You can do the same thing in a pot on the stove but it will take a little longer to cook down.

I have been using Linda Sue's recipe for Chayote squash "Fried Apples": Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

Then, also use one small apple mixed in for that real apple flavor. It is really good.

i have not yet added fruit to my repertoire.

but i feel i can get away with 1 tsp per pork chop. (and who has just one ?), or 1 T for a chicken dinner. I always take the easy way out. That is why i would rather bake an apple till it loses its molecular structure. so, if i put it in the oven, should i add any liquid, or just crank the old gal up to 350 F let nature take its course?
