Made deep friend green beans last night...

Wow, they tasted like french fries. I added salt, pepper and LC ketchup.

Did you do them in a fryer or on the stove in oil? Been wanting to do this, but not sure which method works best!

Thanks!!

In the deep fryer, which my DH just bought me for my BD. We made wings and green beans.

Longer or fatter green beans will be the best. Mine were smaller, frozen ones but still yummy.

I found that they were crisp, like french fries - and delicious, like french fries...

... but they don't actually taste anything like french fries/potato.

It was really difficult for me to believe that they could actually get crispy, but it's almost like the inside gets hollow or something. Very interesting. Lots of flavour - more than a fried potato, that's for sure! I dared not dip them in anything because I didn't want to lose their natural flavour.

I think another reason they taste so good is because they're guilt free!

I baked mine. Maybe that's why they were so airy and crispy!

both the microwave and oven work great--I don't see the need to make a mess with a pot of oil or worse yet go out and buy a fryer unless you feel you need it for something else

Dress with the oil of your choice, and some sea salt.

Roast low and slow.

I've only done it twice and didn't check the time, but I think I put them in at about 150 C. I wanted them to bake - but not so fast that the insides stayed juicy while the outside got crisp.

I'm still sort of stunned by how delicate they were. I thought they'd be harder, or maybe chewy. If I were going to dip them in anything I'd want something really neutral - like plan sour cream.

Are you using Fresh picked beans? or frozen? I thought fresh ones would be grand fried, but of course its not that time of the year in Ohio

I love my mandolin, just be careful with it or you can lose a fingertip!

Now THAT will be money well worth spend, ravenrose! I LOVE my mandoline, and you can get a good one for under $10.00 if you look around!

Sorry for the thread jump, btw!
