Beer-Soaked Mushrooms

I feel like I only ask questions on this board so here's a contribution for once!

A new twist on mushrooms sauteed in butter and garlic...

Slice up some mushrooms and put them in a pan with a can/bottle or two of beer (enough to cover the mushrooms). I used Michelob Ultra because its the lowest in carbs, but next time I'll try a more flavorful beer. I doubt the mushrooms absorb many of the carbs in the beer.

Next, let the mushrooms simmer in the beer for 20 minutes or so until they get dark and seem to have soaked up the beer. Longer you can simmer, the better.

Drain the beer from the pan, add lots of butter and garlic, and sautee.

Mich. Ultra gave them a nice subtle flavor, but I think a strong beer would make a bigger impact on the taste.

Enjoy!

Well that sounds divine!

I've used vermouth to do something similar but wouldn't have considered beer. Nice!
