Thanksgiving green bean casserole...easy Lc alternative

I love the green bean casserole that people make at Thanksgiving, you know, with the canned green beans and cream of mushroom soup, but it seems pretty carby. I just watched a video of Tyler Florence making a variation of this dish and it looks very LC, except the breadcrumbs at the end, but you could substitute pork rinds and parm or maybe flax and parm, or heck, even use the canned onions. (I'm pretty sure they are fairly LC). This recipe looks yummy and so easy to make:

My holiday green bean recipe:

Saute sliced onions with a pork product of choice: bacon, prosicutto, Virginia ham, etc, diced. Steam green beans in the microwave until tender, drain well. Add green beans to onion/bacon mix and saute until they have a little color. Add a large dollop of country dijon mustard (the half-grainy type); stir in dijon and enjoy!

Been making this for years - always a family favorite and very simple.

Here is a recipe I've had hanging around on my computer and was wondering what you all think as far as carbs saying we omit the flour and bread crumbs? Thoughts?

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

There’s no better way to serve green beans than this family favorite!

1 1/2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk
3 to 4 teaspoons dry ranch-style salad dressing mix
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
1 1/4 pounds fresh green beans, cooked until crisp-tender
1 cup fresh bread crumbs, toasted

1. To make white sauce, melt butter in small saucepan over low heat. Stir in flour; cook 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Using wire whisk, stir in milk; bring to a boil. Cook, whisking constantly, 1 to 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in dressing mix and white pepper; set aside.

2. Preheat oven to 350F. Spray medium skillet with nonstick cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring, 2 to 3 minutes or until tender. Remove half of onion mixture; set aside.

3. Add mushrooms to onion mixture remaining in skillet and cook about 5 minutes or until mushrooms are tender. Combine mushroom mixture, green beans and white sauce in 1 1/2-quart casserole. Combine bread crumbs with reserved onion mixture; sprinkle over casserole. Bake, uncovered, until heated through, 20 to 30 minutes.

Preparation Time: 15 to 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 to 30 minutes
Serves 6

Sounds good. Barbo posted a white sauce recipe someplace. Maybe you could use that instead?

Soobee-I'm sure that would make it even better. I liked Tylers recipe because it was so easy, just add sour cream Lol. I don't like a lot of ingredients I'm a lazy cook
