How to make Chicken and Brocolii they have at Chinese Resturant...
TItle...
I know there probably is sugar and maybe corn starch in these dishes but anybody have any idea how to make this dish and make the broccoli taste like it does at the Chinese restaurants in a low carb version... I could seriously eat so much of that brocolii and it would help me get my veggies |

The key ingredients are soy sauce, ginger, sesame oil, fish sauce, and garlic.
Sesame oil has a low smoking point, so don't use this to stir fry--use peanut oil or canola oil. chop up some seasoned chicken, fresh cut broccoli--set aside. Heat a few tbsp of the peanut or canola oil and add the chopped fresh ginger, garlic (don't burn the garlic!) Add in the chicken pieces, cook quickly until lightly browned. Add in the broccoli pieces, and stir fry for a few minutes. Deglaze the pan with some chicken broth and put a cover on the pan for five-seven minutes until the broccoli is tendercrisp Drizzle in 2 tsbp of soy, fish sauces, and 2 tsp of the sesame oil. Toss a few more minutes and serve ( you can add in some sliced waterchestnuts too, but just a few--modestly high in carbs). |

you're very welcome. cooking is my passion.
oyster sauce is typically used here as well, but check carb content. if just 1-2 per tsbp--add a bit for additional flavor. Do it with beef and mushrooms too..... |
If you have or can borrow a crock pot try this, it is delicious and easy.
Oriental Ginger Chicken Combine in a crock pot: 6 uncooked chicken breasts, cut up 1/2 cup minced onion 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar (plain, not seasoned or sweetened) 1/4 cup sesame seeds 1 Tablespoon ground ginger or 1/8 to 1/4 cup fresh grated gingerroot 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil Red pepper flakes (1/4 cup diced carrot, optional) Cover and cook on low for about 5 hours. Stir in 2 (or more) cups of broccoli and 1 (or more) cup of cauliflower. You can also add zucchini, peppers, celery, bok choy, cabbage, snow peas and mushrooms, your choice. Cook 1-2 more hours or until the veggies are how you like them. |
Just watch the labels on the rice wine vinegar. I was shopping yesterday and it was loaded with sugar.

Thai Chicken and Shrimp Soup:
Saute up some garlic, ginger in a bit of EVOO, add in some sliced scallons, chicken broth, cilantro, lime juice and Goya seasoning packet (optional). Throw in some peeled shrimp and chopped chicken. When you are on the page that you want to link....
go to the top of your screen where it says [url]http://www............ right click on the bar, then hit copy, go to post a reply and hit paste in the message.....that should work:) It is kinda hard to explain....if you have any more questions I will check back later:) |
A soup very similar to the Japanese soup they serve in restaurants. I LOVE this soup...can't get enough of it!
Japanese Onion Soup This is a favorite of mine too... Chinese Hot N Sour Soup I can never find tiger lily buds so I just omit. And last time I made this, I just omitted the sugar it called for. I suppose you could play around with Splenda but I really hate the aftertaste of Splenda and would prefer to do without. I also omit the cornstarch. If you want it thicker, add an extra egg at the end of the recipe - that helps thicken the broth a little more. It's still really good (and only 9.9 carbs per serving...and that's the count WITH the sugar & cornstarch). |

o.k., Pam, now let the 'EXPERT" HELP YOU. hA hA. Go to the page you want to link to this message board. where you have your hhtp. dealie on the top of your computer Highlight that, and then right click on copy. Then go back to the message board and just start typing like you would ordinarily do when you have a reply, and then where you want the link, simply hit the paste button Which is under edit on the top of your screen. and there it will be. Let me know if this works for you. It's kinda like a little miracle, but then I am easily pleased. Julie

http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lo...resturant.html
test EditL that's kind of neat this forum does, that usually you would have to use HTML tags but it automatically fetches the title of the thread and makes it so the text isn't in html form and it looks nicer than having the http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lowcarb whatever it usually has... don't listen to me, just blabbing. |
Thanks, Julie & Mushy!
