Meyer Lemons in stores

After reading about Charski's meyer lemons and seeing the picture of her beautiful tree, I was wishing I could sample one. Then today, I read in the Dallas Morning News that this is the peak of the season for meyer lemons. The article said that in Dallas, Central Market, Whole Foods, Market Street and Kroger on Mockingbird have them. So, for anyone in the area who's interested, now is the time to get them. I'm trying to think of something to make with them. All I can think of is lemon curd. Charski, do you know how long they will keep?

I always buy them here too. DH's mom came down to visit a couple weeks ago and brought a bag of them from her tree, I was in heaven.

Judy, I think it will depend on when and at what stage they were harvested. I know I've picked a TON off my tree when a hard frost was predicted, and kept them for weeks in brown paper grocery bags in the coolest, darkest closet in the house.

Here's a pretty good link with ideas of how to use them!

The rind is delicious grated into ice cream. It's totally not bitter!

They are delicious with olive oil on a salad.

They are so good squeezed over any veg, tuna, chicken, etc.

They are incredibly good squeezed into greek yogurt adding some sweetner.

I bought some recently and found how sweet (vs. regular lemons) they are. Does anyone have a good lemon pie recipe?

I used them this week to make a fabo Greek salad dressing: garlic, lemon juice, a little red wine vinegar, fresh oregano, s/p, olive oil. All went into the mini food processor. Really, really good.

Boy do I miss the Meyers Lemon Tree I had when I lived in Northern California. It produced twice a year and in such abundance that I had the most beautiful and delicious lemons almost all year long. Kids would ring my bell to ask if they could pick some for their lemonade stand.

I squeeze them on just about everything. They are especially good squeezed over roasted and grilled veggies and meat. I also use the juice in dressings and use the zest in my cheesecakes.

I finally got my meyer lemons tonight. We went to dgd's bb game tonight and for anyone in the Dallas area, I found them at Market Street grocery store in Allen - a 2 lb bag for $2.98. The first thing I did when I got home tonight was zest one and juice it. Tasted the pulp after juicing it and it tasted somewhat like grapefruit. Definitely not as tart as a regular lemon. I am drinking a delicious glass of lemonade now made with juice and zest!

Now I have to find a good recipe for lemon curd. I've never made it before. Does anyone have a good one?

Sweet Pea, just wondering what part of Florida you live in? My folks lived in southwest Florida and had glorious Meyer lemons. Havent had a decent one since my parents passed away--there is nothing like them! The pies my mom made with them were even better than Key Lime pie to me,
