TRUE TRUE and SOOBEE...blk. bean brownies ??

I read that you both had made these so am asking your advice about tenderizing them first or did you ?
I don't own a pressure cooker so would have to find some other way if in fact they have to be "dealt with" before putting recipe together.
Could I perhaps grind them in processor first then incorporate them ?
Thanks for your help.

Are you talking dried black beans or canned? Use the canned ones and you don't need to tenderize them.

Yeah, I used the canned ones. They're already pretty soft, and once you pulverize them in a blender or food processor you can't even tell that's what's in the batter. It's pretty amazing, really.

Canned is the way to go, my dear..

However, you can used dried beans, but you have to soak them overnight, then cook them the next day for quite a while..They are very cheap, however alot of work.

Dana Carpender suggests soaking the beans, freezing them, then cooking them. She says it breaks them down better. Has anyone ever tried this method?

A search gave me this:

Black Bean Brownies (TRIED AND TRUE)
Printable Version

Phase: 1
Preheat Oven: 350
Cooking Time: 30-40

1 15oz. can of UNSEASONED black beans - drained and rinsed
OR 1 1/4 cup cooked beans of any color
4 eggs (extra large)
1 cup Splenda
3 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. oil or butter
1 Tbs Vanilla (FULL Tablespoon)
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup ricotta cheese or cream cheese

For extra chocolatey goodness:
2 ounces of unsweetened chocolate, melted with
2 Tbs. oil/butter in the micro..
Add a couple of Tbs. of splenda..

Then mix this in the batter right before you spread it in the pan.

chopped nuts - optional (I used chopped walnuts)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients in a food processor or blender- blend very, very well. At this point, I decided it needed more chocolate flavor so I did the addition above, then mixed it in.

Pour into an 8x8 baking pan sprayed with cooking spray or oiled with canola or olive oil. Bake for 30-40 minutes. (til toothpick pulls out clean).

Mine took 30 minutes..

jlatislaw--

Thanks so much. Re the Splenda-- can I use equvis--liquid/qpack? Wondering what your opinion of the taste and texture is before I spend the ingredients and time on them.
Just makes me wonder--

It was the blk SOY beans I was referring to...should have mentioned but thought most low carbers wouldn't be using regular beans like this.
guess I'll just pulverize them in processor first.

arly--

I see you are in silver spring. I used to live in Hyattsville. Haven't been in your area lately. check your Giant store or your local health food store. You will prob find the blk soy canned beans there. So much easier. Definitely worth it.

Soobee-
I tried Dana Carpender's method today for soybeans up to putting them in the crockpot. I used my pressure cooker-40 minutes and they came out great! Very soft and ready for anything!
