Almond flour & carbquick subs?

I am relatively new, and have just been cooking with traditional low carb ingredients for a few months (soya powder, flax seed meal, etc.). And i have noticed that a lot of people make changes and substitute things often. Me being a male and though I enjoy cooking, i am somewhat of a novice about ingedients and their acceptable substitutes. So here is one on my many questions. Can soya powder be substituted for almond flour and/or carb quick in recipes?

And, my local winn dixie and health food store, really doesnt have a large selection of this type stuff, so i guess i will need to get this type stuff from the internet?

I don't know. I think the flavor would be different and maybe the liquid absorption. Does anyone else know?

Hmm..Soy isn't the greatest thing for ya..so I avoid it like the plague. Google it and find out why..

I love cooking with almond flour. I have a Magic Bullet which grinds the nuts very quickly and thoroughly. You can combine the almond flour with a bit of whey or egg protein powder or flaxseed meal to have some nice baked goods.

CQuick still has a twang for me, unfortunately..unless I cover it up.

Someone on this forum suggested sifting the bits of shortening out of the CQ a while back. I tried it, and it REALLY helps. Just my .02.

I also try to avoid processed soy...not black soybeans, though. Love 'em!

You can also order Almond Meal/Flour online. This is the one I use: Bob's Red Mill*::*Flours & Meals*::*Almond Meal/Flour

Trader Joe has the very cheapest almond meal if, of course, you're lucky enuf to have one close by..

Arly: How much is TJ's almond meal? I do think grinding your own can be cheaper..like around $4.00 a pound..or $5.00.

Annette: Whoa! Sifting out the shortening..I must have missed that one..Thanks..will try it
