Way too much time on my hands!

Question about cooking frozen cauliflower on the stove
Have you ever noticed that on the directions of the frozen cauliflower package, it says to use only 3/4 cup of water to cook half of the package or even the the whole package!
This doesn't make any sense to me. I use much more water than that! Shouldn't there be enough boiling water to cover the cauliflower? How much water do you use when you're cooking frozen cauliflower on the stove? |

I never noticed that on the label but I guess I never looked. I don't use anywhere near that much water. I put just enough water to cover the bottom of the pot by maybe 1/4 of an inch.
Well, it looks like I use more water than I thought. I put water in the pot that I would cook a pound of frozen veggies in and then measured it. It measured 1/2 cup. I guess I'd use about 1/4 cup for half a bag of veggies in my smallest pot then. |

One thing to consider is that once the cauliflower thaws it will give off a lot of water so you'll probably end up draining off more than you started with unless a lot of steam escapes around the lid.

I'm with Linda Sue..I only use about 3/4 inch of water when I cook frozen veggies. I do like to use my steam basket most of the time. It seems as though more water would boil the veggies as opposed to steaming them.

[COLOR="DarkGreen"]I don't boil my cauli or broccoli- I steam them, especially doing cauli for faux tater salad or mashers. No dripping wet veggie when steamed!

I steam, or I microwave with VERY little extra water. If I do cook it on the stove, 1/4, if that for the big bag.

OK, I have always thought that it was supposed to be boiling. I guess not!
I guess I'll start doing what the package says and only use 3/4 of a cup to create a steam instead of a boil. I'm not sure why but I just always thought that wasn't enough water. |

Never put the cauliflower in the water but in a steamer basket with the water under the basket or in the microwave with about a couple of tablespoons water.

I do boil my vegetables just not in a lot of water. I guess it's almost like steaming them without bothering with a steamer basket. I also stir them a couple of times as they cook. When I cook fresh cauliflower for faux potato salad, I microwave it with only 2 tablespoons of water in a covered casserole dish.
