Aunt Nettie's Flaxseed Meal Tea

Here's an interesting recipe for flaxseed meal tea. Steeping it for 15 minutes is quite a while and finding a fine mesh strainer seem to be the only "different" things you have to do. Oh yes, ditch the sugar....

FLAXSEED TEA

4 T. flaxseed meal
2 C. (480 ml) boiling water
Dash or 2 of ground cinnamon
Sweetener to taste

1. Measure the flaxseed meal into a 2-cup (480 ml) measuring cup and fill with boiling water. Allow to steep about 12 to 15 minutes.
2. Using a fine mesh strainer, pour the steeped tea through the strainer into another 2-cup measure or small pitcher.
3. Shake a dash or 2 of ground cinnamon and sweeten to taste with sweetener of your choice. Makes 1 very large cup or 2 generous teacups of delicious flaxseed tea.

Hi Carolyn
Wonder if you couldn't strain it through a paper coffee filter? I don't have a fine mesh one but I would think the idea is to get the seeds out. Let us know how you like it if you try it.

A paper coffee filter should work fine. Also, I recently bought one of those metal mesh permanent coffee filters. The mesh is very fine, so one of those would work well, too.

There shoiuldn't be any seeds in it - it says flaxseed meal. My guess would be the gritty residue is what you'd be straining out.
