Whole-food homemade wrap recipe?

I've skimmed around but would love it if someone has a recipe I don't know about. I miss wraps. I don't use soy protein isolate or Atkins/Carbquick types of baking mixes or prebought LC wraps.

I'd love to figure out a way to whip up something decent. I know about oopsies and have done crepes before, but I'm looking for something a little more chewy I guess. I've also made shredded cheese "taco" shells, but again, I'm looking for more of a wrap, if possible.

Can any of the expert, creative LC chefs direct me to a favorite non-frankenfood recipe by any chance? I hope there's one out there that I just don't know about

Do you mind if it has buckwheat or oat flour in it?

Nope, as long as it is relatively low carb (and I eat more along premaintenance/maintenance as I low carb for PCOS, not necessarily weight loss).

It would rock if you have one

When you say low carb, exactly how low are you talking about? About how many carbs per wrap can you do?

One more question: Do you use whey protein? I have a recipe that uses unflavored whey protein.

Okay, this buckwheat wrap is more like a crepe. No protein powder in this one. Is this what you are looking for, or more of a tortilla type texture? 9g carbs per wrap.

Mission also makes a low carb wrap. They have 10 net carbs per wrap.

The Flat-Out wraps are the largest wrap and come in with the lowest net carbs. They make pizzas, and HUGE sandwich wraps.

You can find them in the deli section of your Super-Stores, or in the bread section of smaller grocers. They also have a website.

Joseph's Lavash Bread is great. They come as 4 very large sheets @ 7 carbs/3 fiber for 1/2 sheet. I usually use just 1/3 sheet for a lunch roll-up. I take 2 roll-ups using these in a baggy on the plane when I travel.

You can find them displayed at the deli counter at Super-WalMart or order at Netrition:

Lauren,
You are becoming my favorite cook! You cook just the way I like. I went to your web site to find the wrap -didn't find it - and saw the Orange Creamsicle cupcakes! Wow. They look really good.

I'm hoping your wrap doesn't have oat flour in it though. I don't toleralte it very well.

Most of the store bought ones have soy flour or soy protein isolate, and I really try to avoid both. I've tasted some of those and they are yummy and workable, but I'd really prefer something I can made and control the ingredients, kwim?

Thanks for the suggestions though!

7 Carbs Per Wrap

I buy Toufayan Bakeries wraps and pitas. They have excellent flavour and hold up very well. I highly recommend them if you can find them near you.

I second the FlatOut Wraps. I think the lowest net carb is 6-I buy the Tomato FlatOut and the Herb FlatOut. As Cleo mentioned, they're great for pizzas!!! Also for hamburger "rolls", Gyros (my fav), Philly Cheese Steak sammies or Rueben Sammies.

Lauren's buckwheat wrap above looks to die for!!! I'm ready to load that with cream cheese, sprouts, olives, cucumbers, red onion and avacado!!!

Sorry, I'm working to get it less "doughy" in the center, which is tough to do without drying it out too much. The taste and flexibility are great, though. If any bakers have ideas on how to do this, advice would be appreciated! I'm a bit frustrated with the recipe at the moment.

Lauren, what method are you using to cook them? By the way, I came across your blog today and love it!

Brittone, in a pinch, the Mission LC tortillas and the Flat-Out wraps don't have soy protein/flour. Those are the only prepared LC bread items I've found that don't have soy. I avoid soy, too.
