I drink kombucha because I like it. I don't really have any major life threating issues, that I know of. My skin is clearer when I drink it, and I was hoping it was true that it would stop your hair from going gray. It didn't work for my husband though, but I only have a few strands at 52. Also, it's great for my stomach issues. I have a hard time digesting animal products, and drinking kombucha with my meal allows me to eat them. If the kombucha is also helping my liver, dissolving tumors, or whatever else, all the better.
I don't think kombucha is any more acidic than vinegar (unless you drink it how I like it) And 5% vinegars are sold in plastic bottles. Konbucha would be way less than 5% acidity . I don't think acid automatically eats plastic. Heat and sunlight definitely do, but you wouldn't keep your konbucha in the heat and sunlight either.

I drink kombucha cause my friend was hooked on it and I wanted to know what she was up to. I enjoyed it and felt really good while drinking it. I had a really old batch of it that sat at room temp for who knows how long and it became very vinegary. When I drank it anyway, (I was stressing out a bit and my tummy wasn't cooperating in general) I found that I digested very well, and felt very satisfied with my meals. I only had to drink a few sips for that effect also. (maybe cause it was so acidic) and I didn't feel the need to chug it as some of my friends do. I want to make my own so I can make it as strong as that accidental batch. I felt more alert, happier, less indigestion, more clarity (sometimes) less grumpy (sometimes ) I'd rather drink that than any soda.

I was wondering how everyone pronounces Kombucha. I always say the "cha" like cha in chalk. My friend says the cha with a hard K sound.

Thanks,
Criosa

Ditto, but I've never heard it spoken.

No Linda, I don't think the tea made the blood clots but it didn't clean out my arteries either and I had been drinking it for almost 6 yrs. I did like the flavor, but my mushroom died while I was in the hospital and just never got another one. Good luck to all drinking it and I'm sure it can't hurt and probably do you a lot of good. Ann

Yes, it works fine. But you have to be careful and check them and let them vent a little; otherwise they could explode!

Yes, canning jars should be fine--perfect!

We drink ours so fast we just decant it into suntea jars, which we keep in the fridge so it's chilled. The kids just pour themselves a glass when they want it that way. They go through a gallon jar every 2-3 days.

Kombucha is one of the most studied natural foods on the planet. The bacteria that are in it are beneficial.

As far as being afraid it would get contaminated, about the only thing that can contaminate it is mold, which would grow on the scoby and you could *see*. If that happens you're to throw the entire batch out, including the scoby.

Add me to this list - I just ordered my scoby today after getting HOOKED on SYNERGY last week... Both Jim and I love it...

I did get 2 cases on sale at Whole Foods @ 2 for $5... YIKES to at least get us by for a couple weeks - Maybe

Plus I love fermenting stuff (kefir & yogurt). I'm going to have a fermenting kitchen..

I laugh, cause Jim say "time to do our liquids" twice a day we do... shots... I mix mine for one big one but Jim does them seperately (he hates the ACV) I love it... He says this better be good for me he has the worst shot shivers!!!

ACV
Aloe Vera
Xango... now adding Kombucha (plus I have been drinking 16 oz over the course of the day)

Anyone else still making Kombucha?

Question - Has anyone used Yerba Matte as the tea when making Kombucha?
