RIP, Splenda Quick Packs

Hello My Friends:

We are gathered here today to mourn the loss of yet another great low-carb product. Ah, Splenda QP, you were truly our friend. . . .

Well, as Netrition's Tom confirmed in another thread, Splenda has done what I long suspected/feared -- discontinued the Quick Packs. I hadn't seen mention of it here on the Recipe Help/Suggestions thread, so I thought some of you may have missed this info. (If you knew about it you'd be as freaked as I am, right?? )

Some folks are stocking up when they see the boxes for $1 and under at Big Lots, but we don't have them here. Splenda's website is offering a free case (6 boxes), plus free shipping, when you buy 2 cases. (only one free case per customer, no matter how many cases above the 2 you purchase.) The per case price seems a bit discounted already, even without the special offer.

Please let us know if you find any other deals for those of us planning to stock up.

Ah, Splenda QP: Your life was short, but oh so sweet

FYI the order works out to 42 cents each with the free pack figured in. Just for reference if you find them anywhere.

About a month ago I ordered QP's from Splenda and got the free case. Today I ordered again - and they sent me a confirmation so I presume they're going to send it. If you've already ordered try again. I think they mean only one free case PER ORDER. Hopefully!!

Hmm, I suspect a certain amount of time must pass as I tried to place a second order after my first today, under a different household member's name, different credit card, and even on a different computer (case they were tracking -- yeah, I was trying to be sneaky ) and couldn't get it to go thru to the same address.

Double bummer. . . .

Just to clarify for those that may misunderstand, that's for each packet, not each box of 5 packets. The folks who are finding the 5 pack boxes at the discount stores for .99 and under are really lucking out -- may be they should go into business and become resellers to us

I re-ordered the QP's about a month apart and they sent them to me
If you've ordered in the past try again - I'm going to order again in a few weeks and they'll send me another order.

Thanks for that info -- I'll try again in a few weeks.

I was out of town this past weekend and saw a Big Lots which we don't have locally where I live. Went in on the off-chance I would find some QPs at the 1.00/box price and indeed, I did. I bought all they had on the shelf. But how old were these suckers?? -- they still had the "NEW!!" imprint on them from when Splenda first released the product!

retroworx,

Thank you for posting this information. The store where I regularly buy them was out last time I was there, and I didn't think anything of it.

I ordered my 3 cases.

One thing I noticed with the Quick pack is that stores didn't stock it in the same areas as all the other Splenda. They'd stock it near the powdered drink mixes, or near the tea. Why not put it with the other Splenda products? If I'm looking for Splenda, I go down the bake aisle to the sweeteners, not to the tea aisle. Maybe that's why it wasn't selling.

Sad. That was a great product.

You're quite welcome, LCC!

Yeah, I agree that the product placement and marketing of the QP was ambivalent, at best, which is why I've suspected this product was not long for our world. I believe MacNeil (spelling?) wanted to tie it in to sweetening SF Kool-Aid packs (hence that aisle), while not cutting into the Splenda Granular sales in the baking aisle. For the people they were trying to sell to (Moms) it was a poor product idea -- I mean, if she was using Splenda for her family already, why would she buy a different kind just to sweeten their drinks?? She'd just throw in the appropriate amount of the granular. And I'm sure they don't think there's enough of a low-carb market for it, since most low carb consumers are not as astute as those of us here on LCF () and think that Splenda granular is low carb enough (especially since the FDA lets them list all the stats per serving as zero!)

So, I'm trying to stock up as much as is reasonable since I don't have a clue as to the shelf-life, and in the meantime I am gradually trying to switch over to Stevia, tho I am not having much success finding one I like as a stand-alone (I've tried the various brands' powder and liquid forms suggested here by different folks on LCF and have a few more experiments on their way, so hopefully I'll find a happy compromise soon.)

Yours in Quick Pack Mourning,

-Retro

I agree with LowCarbConvert..........the Splenda Quick Packs shouldn't be with the KoolAid (powdered drinks) only. Why not have them with the other Splenda products, too. I bought the remaining 40 packets at my nearby Kroger for 34 cents per packet.

I'm just sick that these are being discontinued.

I looked on mine and ddnt notice an expiration date. I bought 49 packs earlier this week and plan to get more this weekend, if I can find them

Just one more reason we should be glad that Macneil-whatever's (Johnson and Johnson's) patent has expired.

I could only find them here in a very few stores even before the discontinuation notice. I did luck onto a bunch at Big Lots. Had thought the packets would be the answer to the "unregulated" liquid Splenda I've been buying off the net. Hope THAT doesn't dry up, too!

Has anyone heard the "reason" for them being discontinued?

FYI: I emailed Big Lots yesterdayto ask if they planned to offer QPs in any of their stores in my area & quickly rec'd a list of 60 or so stores that had 'em (looked like they were scattered across the whole state of CA!) I hustled on over to a store in Long Beach this morning & picked up 18 boxes (they had tons!) at $1.00 or 20 cents a packet...SWEET!
