My mom is coming to visit, and is bringing me a Kitchenaid Standmixer.

All I know about it so far is that she says it is "one of the older ones" and she never uses it, so she is giving it to me.

Does anyone have one? What do you use it for?

You'll love it Jake. I finally got one at Christmas. I use it to make Oopsie Rolls. It's good for mixing anything, really. Except cement, but I imagine it could!

Most any recipe that calls for mixing or whipping, use your Kitchen Aid. It does a thorough job and in a fraction of the time it takes a standard mixer (or your hand).

God bless your mom, what a nice thing to do.

Oopsie rolls.

With the grinder attachment, I grind my own beef. Won't even buy storebought any more!

Whipping a lot of cream at one time. (You can put it in "blops" on a waxed-paper-lined baking sheet, freeze til hard, then put into a ziploc - they keep a long time and defrost quickly - then you have whipped cream topping WITHOUT the nasty additives, any time you want!)

Any of the LC cakes on this forum!

I googled to find out more about it. Hard to say what she is bringing you, far as capacity, but I sense that you are getting a truly sturdy tool for your kitchen. Metal, not plastic. A real workhorse, I bet. Ask her for particulars and then you can google to get more info on what this will do for you. If you don't use it yourself, I think you can sell it for big bux. But it sure sounds like a great kitchen tool.

Oh, funny site: Gadgets

LOVE mine. Use it for oopsies, meatballs, any "baking" recipe. Mine has a flat paddle for regular mixing, a whisk for egg whites, and a dough hook for kneeding dough. You can get attachments (like for grinding) too.

And as far as it being an older one - mine is about 25 years old and it's never given me a moment's trouble and still looks brand spankin' new! I love this mixer! *Ü*

I love my mixer. It is the best gift in the entire world. I use mine almost daily. I make my own pasta, grind meat, make icecream, bread, and pretty much anything that needs mixing or Hope you enjoy!

Yep as others have said, the older ones are even better despite being a smaller capacity! As far as what to do with it? We-lllllll. I guess you could make oopsie's in it although that seems over-engineering it a little.

You could make lots of Kevinpa's baked goods recipes!

Meat grinding is perfect (that's what I use mine for mostly...making homemade sausage).

Have fun with it!

As the others have said, Anything you need to mix!!!

Jake, I just got myself a new one just before Christmas. (My old mixer died. - Not a KA.) I love it. (There are few things I wish were different, but I would definitely buy one again, if I were buying again.)

I've got one about 10 years old. I use it for mixing everything...even pizza dough. You'll love it and it's great when you have to beat egg whites.....saves the ole arm aches.

Yay! Here it is! This thing is in like MINT condition, OMG! The lady that gave it to my mom supposedly only used it a handful of times, and my mom has never used it at all. The copyright date in the book is 1965.

That BOOK might be from 1965 but I seriously doubt the mixer is, from the looks of it - the one I had first was my grandmother's, probably from 1960's and had a glass bowl and looked very different.

The one I have NOW is prolly about 10 years or so old and looks just like that one, except it's white, and has the same beater attachments.

I'd say you made out GOOD, dude!

I bought a reconditioned Kitchen Aid 35 years ago. It never died. It's fabulous. The only reason I switcehd to a new one was because I got it as gift. It's the same, just a different color. I like it enough to give it counter space--it weighs a ton, so it's a pain to move around.. I use it for oopsies, all cakes, most cookies, whipped cream, and many other desserts. I haven't tried the meat grinding, but it sounds like a great idea.

Thanks! I wonder how I can determine the actual age of the machine... it's old enough to be in 70's NuTone color and the plug has no grounding prong..... Not that it matters a whole lot, but I'm still dead curious.

Jake look at the model number on the back of the mixer or sometimes underneath, you should be able to look it up on the Kitchen Aid website, I think they can tell you by the serial number. There might also be a manufacture date on it. Looks like a beauty. I am also thinking it is a newer one, I didn't think they made the tilt head till about 10 years age. I could be totally wrong though!

I have a Hamilton Beach stand mixer, too! I received it as a wedding gift from my parents in 1967 (another life, but that is another story). The mixer still works great! Both of my sons and their wives have Kitchen Aid mixers. I recently bought a Kitchen Aid hand mixer and use that all the time.

Wow, check eBay - put "vintage KitchenAid" into their search. I guess the one I had from my grandmother was older than I thought - vintage 1940's! Who knew!

Looks like yours is a K45? There are several on eBay that look just like your "new" one - including some attachments!

From what I gathered looking around, those colors (gold and avocado) were from the 70's.

No tellin' on my current one, it's white! I guess you CAN go to the KA site and find out. Think I will!

Me again!

I couldn't stand it any longer so went out, got my KA out of the cupboard, and noted down the model and serial numbers. Went to the KA website but couldn't find anyplace to put that info for the manufacturing date, so I called their 800 number, went through the appropriate voice prompts and finally got a very nice woman named Rachel, who was VERY happy to help me - after a moment on hold, she said that her specialist told her my machine was manufactured in 1989.

So now I know, and YOU can too, if you can get the model/serial number!

I love this thing! Here it is the 16th, and I have used this thing every single day sometimes more than once! It rocks! Maybe one of the coolest things too is that I have set my Oster up for food processing, and now I just love to use it too as I don't have to switch it back and forth for mixing.

Thanks mom!

I finally got my email back regarding the age of the machine (I sent the model/serial in). Here was the response:

Quote:

The K45 Stand Mixer was produced between 1962 and 1979. Due to the age of the mixer, internal parts and repair are no longer available. However, we do have replacement parts available such as the bowl, dough hook, wire whip and flat beater.

Have a nice weekend,

Hmm, well that's interesting, because MINE is a K45SSWH and they told me it was made in 1989!

You might give 'em a call on their 800 number - if you can supply them with the serial number (mine is on the inside bottom of the base) they can tell you what year YOURS was made! If you're interested enough anyway!
