Charski Vita Mixer

My Christmas, New Years, Birthday, Groundhog Day, Valentine's day
present has been ordered. It's a 5200 Vita Mixer and DH sez he will
have to take out a loan for it Now I can't wait to receive it.

Please repost that blueberry icecream recipe for me. Tell me some of
the things that you do with it for low carb?

Oh man Barbo, I am SOOOO excited for you! Can't wait to hear your review on the 5200.

The ice cream is so dang easy it should be illegal - the recipe is actually in the book, but what I do is halve it so it's just the right amount for 2 servings, since freezing leftovers makes them very hard.

For 2 servings:

1/2 cup heavy cream OR full-fat yogurt
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Sweetener equivalent to 1/2 to 1 cup sugar (I've been using 1 packet erythritol and 48 drops of liquid Splenda which is equivalent to 1/2 cup of the type of have)
8 ounces frozen fruit (blueberries, black raspberries, strawberries, mixed berries, whatever!)

I mix the cream or yogurt in a measuring cup with the sweeteners and vanilla, then add that to the blender container. Put the frozen fruit on top. Put the lid on, take out the lid insert, and put in the tamper. Start on variable speed at the lowest setting - start moving the tamper around the container, pushing the fruit into the blades, as you turn the speed up to 6. Continue to push the fruit into the blades until you have a uniform, frozen mass. The whole process should take a minute or less. Scoop out and eat!

We're particularly enjoying the frozen yogurt right now and it's much less calorie-dense than the cream.

I bought a fresh pineapple the other day and chunked it up, then froze, tonight I will make frozen pineapple yogurt - will report back after we try it out!

I think DH's faves are the black raspberry and the strawberry so far. The black raspberry is pretty "seedy" but it's so delicious!

I'm also gonna buy some frozen boysenberries to try next time I'm at the market.

Let's see, I have so far used it to crush ice (makes a blender full in 3 seconds, no lie!), make salsa, make cream of Ortega chile/cheese soup - it's about time to grind some flax seeds, which I always did with the old 4000, 3 cups in under 10 seconds! Will see if there is any difference with the new machine soon.

I just love the thing! And it's self-cleaning - after you take out what you've made you just add a couple drops of liquid dish soap, a couple cups of hot tap water, put the lid on tight (I didn't get it on all the way the first time - uh, hello soapy water!) and turn it on, let it whir a few seconds, then rinse. That's all!

In the old one, I've made peanut butter, my homemade BBQ sauce, mayonnaise, and back when I WAS doing bread, ground the whole wheat berries and made the dough all in one continuous process!

You're gonna have SO much fun!

Speaking of gifts from "Santa", have you seen the new Vita-Mix cleaning brush? It's over forty dollars (kind of pricey for a BRUSH) but looks like it'd do a good job. Could make a nice stocking stuffer...

I saw that, Ginny - personally, my experience is that it cleans itself pretty well and what doesn't come out I've just used a regular old two buck bottle brush to remove! LOL!

But hey, if ya want THE REAL THING - yep, Santa should bring it!

I have the 5000 and don't hardly use it. I really need som ideas 'cause right now it is a very expensive smoothie maker. I have tried grdinding almonds for almond flour and ended up with almond butter! Any help/tips/ideas would really be appreciated and my DH would quit giving the thing dirty looks.

I also could use mine more. . .so any ideas appreciated. . .

But I love mine. . .an oldie. . .but I don't use it as much as I could.

DH is probably wondering if my latest wish. . .a professional steamer (for "ironing" or not "ironing," really) will go the way of many of my small appliances I can't live without.

Gotta love gadgets. (or some of us do)

BTW, my "plastic" blender container for my Vitamix. . .leaks. . .anybody have that problem, or know how to fix it?? From the bottom. Kinda messy, like me!

Janie, go to their website and call their 800 number. They are SO NICE! I called to find out about the DVD they have that gives you basic instruction on using the machine (this was before I bought the 5000) and they sent me one for FREE!
