Hot Slaw: This is sooooo good
I made this today and it turned out great.
Hot Slaw: Recipe from Paula Deen 6 slices bacon 1 large onion, chopped 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped 1 large head green cabbage, shredded 4 tablespoons chili powder Kosher salt 1 (10-ounce) can diced tomatoes and green chiles (recommended: Ro-Tel) In a large skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove to paper towels to drain. Crumble bacon and set aside. In reserved bacon fat, cook onions and bell peppers until limp, about 5 minutes. Add shredded cabbage and cook until limp, but not soft, about 3 to 5 minutes. Add chili powder and salt, to taste. Add tomatoes and simmer just until warmed through. Slaw should be slightly crisp. Adjust seasonings. Serve quickly with crumbled bacon. Last edited by Nigel : 08-02-2007 at 08:43 PM. |

She sure is, LOL. I wonder if she would have made that recipe if she'd realized that it was actually low carb. Just kidding. I watched her make that dish quite some time ago and printed out the recipe. Thanks for the review, Nigel. I don't know why I've never gotten around to trying it because it sounds delicious.

K: Yummmy..I have a question..Could you use the packaged slaw? I'm lazy sometimes.
And is it a bit soupy or does the cabbage soak the tomatoes up a bit? |

I made this recipe about a year and a half ago when I saw Paula do it on TV. I really liked it, but DH just thought it so-so. It seemed more like a vegetable dish to me than a real slaw, but that was okay by me.

Sounds what I make w/my eggs at nite, I get the Broccelli Slaw and fry it in a mixture of coconut & bacon grease. Its soooo yummy. I also found a Broccelli Slaw type mixture at Meijers but it not only had cabbage/broc./carrots, it also had cauliflower in it, it was so good to fried in bacon/coconut grease. Good EATIN

Also, for anyone who doesn't like a lot of heat, be sure and get the "mild" green chilies and tomatoes, but if you don't like any heat, I think canned petite tomatoes would work just as well. Now, I'm thinking I might want to try this with a bag of broccoli slaw. Hmmm.... |
