Amy's 30 second protein cookie
This is a pretty good cookie..thanks, Amy..
1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder 1 pkg of Splenda 1 tsp. butter (she used ffree butter) a few drops of water In a microwave safe cereal bowl melt the butter in the microwave. Then add the rest of the ingredients, saving the water for last. You want the texture to be like a cookie..Mix into a ball shape and microwave for 30 seconds. In the second one I made, I put some sf chocolate chips in it. You could really have fun with this, I think.. |
I have some chocolate Designer Whey Protein I've never used-maybe I'll do a little mad experimenting. The important thing is-how did they taste Carolyn?
|
You know..I thought it tasted pretty good..;) It would certainly be a nice treat with coffee in the afternoon..It makes one big cookie..
|
That looks tasty, I will have to try that later.
|
Oooh I do love my coffee-thanks for the info Carolyn. Have you seen Amy's videos? They are a hoot-you can tell she doesn't cook much!
|
I made two of these cookies, one with chocolate Designer Whey Protein and the other with Natural Designer Whey Protein to which I added vanilla flavoring instead of the water. I thought they both were awful! The chocolate one was like eating cardboard, and the vanilla one was like chewing on styrofoam.
I'll try it again, using Carolyn's recipe. I wrote down Amy's recipe as I watched her video, so it's quite possible (even probable! :stars: ) that I missed something. ETA: I just checked the recipe I had written down, and it's the same as Carolyn's. I will try again, though. Maybe I nuked it too long. My microwave is relatively new and pretty powerful. |
what is the link to amy's website?
|
I used the Now Vanilla Whey Protein..and with the splenda it was pretty sweet. I DO think you need to get good tasting whey protein..cuz some of that stuff isn't too great by itself. I do think this is a very sensitive recipe..and you might add more butter than 1 tsp..and see what happens..
:) I guess we have to keep experimenting to find the perfect combo..I love almond extract and I think a drop of that might be good, too. |

I made a few variations of this cookie including the original and well, it wasn't my type of treat. Mine were all dry and I tried adding lots of stuff. Finally I just resigned. I'll keep looking for that one serving cookie--there's bound to be one out there that I like. :dunno:
|
I made it today using optimum nutrition (ON) Cookies and Cream Protein Powder and skipped the splenda (Powder is sweet enough for me)...it was GOOD! 30 seconds and poof! It was filling and fun...Chips Ahoy its not....but a really nice treat. Ive made the brownies, too. You take a little chocolate Protein powder and add enough water to make it "brownie batter consistancy" and then nuke it for 10 seconds. Then scrape if off the sides of the bowl and renuke for 20 seconds. If your protein powders chocolate flavor isnt rich enough add a little extra cocoa powder and a splenda. Its a little gooey in the center when its done and dry on the outside. MMMMM

These were so good! I made one using a few drops of almond extract and a teaspoon of dried coconut; my non-LC hubby got a whiff and ate the whole thing after I offered him a bite, and I had to make another one. Don't add too much water or they will be too chewy--I found this out the hard way. Thanks Carolyn!
|
Holy moley I never knew protein powder could do that!!!
I just had to try it even though the only flavor of protein powder I have is Nectar fuzzy navel . I used a pat of regular butter, 1/2 scoop of the powder, little splenda, and kept adding water until it formed a cookie dough, at first it was still too dry. I did not expect it to puff up like a cookie after 30 seconds in the microwave, but it totally did. Tasted odd for a cookie since it was peach/orange flavor, but with a smear of cream cheese it was a refreshing snack. Thanks Carolyn!! |
Those sound yummy!! i'll have to try them when I get home!!
|
This is a fun and easy experiment..I tried it with some coffee/mocha protein powder that I got on netrition..Great taste..but a tad bit dry..I think we have to play with the water/fat combo to get the right consistency.
|
I tried twice playing with the cooking time. It looked good. Puffed up nicely but....:sick::sick:
I had to chew and chew and chew. |
Alison: If you have to chew and chew..you probably cooked it a tad too long..
and it makes a difference if the cookie is in a ball when you microwave it or not.. |
What can we add to make it less dry?
I tried adding fiberfit and egg beaters. No difference. I still like the idea of this cookie, just not the dryness at all. |
Nigel: Me, too..I think adding more fat..but not too much would help. Maybe 1 1/2 tsps. would work better..
OR, you could dunk it in your coffee..:) |
The one I made wasn't dry, but it just wasn't a cookie flavor.
When you mixed the powder and melted butter was the dough crumbly? Mine was so I kept adding drops of water until it was more of a dough consistency. |
I just made this for an afternoon treat with my coffee. I used Vanilla Whey PP from Protein Factory. I order mine sweetened with stevia and find it's sweet enough for me without adding more, so I skipped the Splenda. I used coconut oil instead of butter and DaVinci syrup, Bailey's Irish Cream flavor.
YUM. It's not the texture of a real cookie, but I have low expectations for substitutes for the real thing and don't expect it to be like a real cookie. There'll always be a difference. To me it was at all dry, but that may be because I used more than a few drops of syrup, probably a teaspoon. It was more crumbly and as it cooled it held together better. I totally enjoyed it and would make it again, experimenting with different powders, additions and flavorings. A good treat with a cuppa. |
Heather: I think we should add liquid until it sticks together..like a wet ball..not a dry one..
Zib: Yes, it indeed is an experiment in the making. |

Ok, my take was. . .not bad. . .if you are not used to the real thing!
I used a bit of DaVinci's. . .gingerbread. . .and I got to say, this will be my "go to" for the next month or so. Either for breakfast or for snack. Janie Thanks Carolyn and of course Amy! |
Janie: I think that gingerbread is a great idea..What other Davinci flavors would make a good cookie? Or maybe some cinnamon mixed in with the protein powder..?

I'll have to check what I have in my cupboard in the morning..:)
|
Me, I'm digging out the SpiceBlend (stronger than Gingerbread) and the Butterscotch...hmmmmmmmmmm.
 |
I found some gingerbread Davinci's in my cupboard..
I made the cookie again: 1/2 scoop protein powder 1 1/2 tsp. of soft butter drops of gingerbread syrup until it formed a ball.. Then I manually made a ball in the middle of my cereal bowl..about the size of a walnut in the shell.. Zapped it for 28 seconds..It wasn't dry..tasted "purty" good.. |
