Has anyone cooked breakfast sausages in a slow cooker?
Lately it has been hot and humid up here, and I cooked pork tenderloin in the slow cooker yesterday to save on heat in the kitchen and I was just wondering if I could cook my thick breakfast sausages that way?
I have googled sausages and crockpot and only came up with sausage casseroles. I usually cook 2-3 lbs in the oven as they brown more evenly that way, easy to warm up one or two after that. I have them for breakie with an egg and use the sausages for dipping the egg yolk. Thanks if anyone knows this. Susan ![]() |

Boy, I've never tried that, but I bet it would work fine. They most likely won't brown at all though.
You might have to check them after an hour or two and see if there's too much liquid in the bottom of the pot, since it won't cook off. If you try it let us know how it turned out! |

Can't you just cook and brwon them nicely in a big skillet on stove top?
I am not sure what you mean by "think brakfast sausage"? I do get big packages of Eckrich smoked sausages and cut into 3 to 4 inch pieces, toss them into the crockpot and drizzle a goodly amount of bbq sauce over them, put the lid on, turn it on low and walk away for several hours. Good for potlucks. All you can do is try I think if your sausage is smokey link(ish) it would work ok but if it is grey sausage link/patty type then I would think it would not do so well.....now you should try it out and let us know ![]()

I'd suggest trying it. Put balls of foil in the bottom of the crockpot and then lay the sausages on top so that the liquids drain off.
If you try it, let us know how it turns out! |

Thank you All so much for the advice.
I think I will try Yummy's foil balls. I am not an expert with the crock pot yet but I am growing fond of it. Becky, I mean "Fat" sausages by saying "Thick" so they are tough to cook on the stove top, very fatty in the pan. The oven does a better job seems to dry them out better...but dont need that heat in the summer months. I love the idea of smothering them in BBQ sauce but cant find SF BBQ sauce up here. Charski, I will try them probably on Monday and let you All know for sure how they turned out. Thank you so much All of you again, Susan |

Keep us posted Susan! I can't wait to hear how this turns out. I had never thought of cooking them this way until you mentioned it. This would be so easy and convenient if it worked!

Yep, what I am looking for it containing the "mess" as the crock pot washes out so easy and I hope to get a couple of pound done at once.
