Slow cooker / Crock pot advice

Hi,
Do any of you use a slow cooker or crock pot? Are they the same thing? I want to start cooking some meat in them, but I am NOT a cook. Do any of you use them? What kind? What do you cook and how?
Thanks!

I use my crockpot (same as slow cooker) for beef stew especially. You can look online for recipes, just google crockpot recipes.

Yes, they're the same thing.

I suggest you find recipes designed for slow cookers.

Crock Pot is a brand name of a slow cooker, so yes, they are the same. I don't use mine very often, but they are fantastic! There are recipes on the Crock Pot webiste: www.crockpot.com VERY easy and you can just adjust the recipes to fit with your way of eating. :-)

I use mine a lot. I am also not a cook. lol...my favorite "recipe" is to take a few pounds of chicken breasts or a turkey breast, dump in crockpot, add garlic and walk away... See, I am NOT a cook! BUT it's good & I can do whatever I want to the poultry, add to stirfry, salads, eat plain, etc...

I know this is probably a dumb question, but do you have to add liquid to the meat to cook it in the crock pot?

There's also a Crockpot BBQ Pit if you are looking to cook meat. It works really well. I've cooked a whole pork shoulder in it and made great pulled pork BBQ which ended up being extremely cheap since the shoulder was like 69 cents/lb. Ribs are also good and a whole 11 lb Turkey worked well, all the bones just came right out, carving was a snap. They are pretty cheap at Walmart.

for TONS of slow cooker/Crockpot ideas.

A slow cooker is the same thing as a Crockpot, in essence, but Rival has trademarked Crockpot for their version of slow cookers. So, a Crockpot IS a slow cooker, but not all slow cookers are Crockpots!

I rarely do. I use frozen meat much of the time and it always ends up with a lot of liquid.

Beef short ribs....dirt cheap and tougher than leather.

Except...

Season with salt/pepper. Sear them in a skillet just to get them good and brown. Put them in a crock pot with a sliced up onion, and some garlic (to taste). Add a can of beef broth (low sodium). Put on low for all day.

Tender, fallin'-off-the-bone, absolutely to-die-for.

Jan

Thanks to you all!

I really need to figure out how to have meat around ready to eat so I will stay/get on plan!

Any other ideas would be great for me if you have them.
