All natural - Homemade Flavored Water

Hello All- Just wanted to share- For all that get tired of plain water and want to avoid artificial sweetners and chemicals. I take a gallon of spring water and pour a little out to leave some room. Cut in slices, a half of orange, lemon, lime, strawberrys, and cucumber. Leave them to float in the water, keep in fridge. It makes a delicious flavored water.

Great idea - and what's so awesome about this, you can keep refilling the water over and over for almost a week. I've done this in the past and when I pour a glass, I just refill the pitcher.

Hi Liza and sbarr!

Thank you so much for this information.

This is perfect.

I have some of the freshest-smelling raspberries and I have ever found. I will add them to this mix, too. I would have never thought to add cucumber slices.

Can't wait!

I love the idea of being able to use this for up to a week!

There isn't a day that I don't come to this board and learn something truly helpful and amazing.

I hope that people will never hesitate to post a thought or an idea that is useful to LC. You never know just how much something can help someone else.

Thanks, agian!

Annie

Hi back Annie - gawd, I've learned so much here. This is where I adopted my flax meal and whey protein breakfast cereal (whodathunk?) and so many other simple little things that make a world of difference!!! The recipes, the hints, the support - makes it all a bit more doable.

This is exactly why I have a bag of unsweetened mixed berries in my freezer! Pop a handful into a pitcher and voila!

Thanks for posting it for everyone to see Liza!

I love to make flavored water, but I usually do it a glass at a time. Thanks for the idea to make it up in advance!

My current fave is to put an ounce of unsweetened pure pomegranate juice in a tall glass, fill with ice, then pour a plain seltzer water over all and stir. Very refreshing.

And since my dwarf Meyer lemon is loaded with fruit, I've been taking half a lemon and squeezing it into a tall glass, add some water and 2 packets Stevia Plus, put in lots of ice and fill with water. Homemade lemonade, easy as you please.

I gotta try the cucumber though! Sounds very interesting!

Great idea!

Also wonderful: grow fresh herbs and add them to the mix.

Did you know that Stevia is a wonderful houseplant? It's a tender perennial. (If you live in the north, you can bring it in over the winter.) It is SO MUCH FUN to pluck a sweet sprig and put it in tea with some mint leaves, lemony herbs like lemon balm or lemon verbena, or other tasty herbs.

Just a note on mint plant--it will take over. I have 2 mint plants but I keep them in an area separate from my other herbs. They grow vigorously. My neighbor keeps hers in a large pot and just sits it next to the herb garden.
I love a sprig of mint in diet coke as well as for tea. If you squeeze the mint spring together with your fingers (I think they call it bruising) you get more flavor than just dropping in a sprig.

Thanks for the info. I have always had a window herb garden... and now I know to plant the mint separate.
