How about pork rinds, or cucumbers sliced on the diagonal to make raw "chips" - I love those, I use them at my favorite salad bar instead of the water crackers with the caviar/sour cream/egg/capers/red onions on top.
If you try the turnips, before frying I'd pat them VERY dry or even put them in a slow oven for a bit to evaporate some moisture. I tried making baked chips and deep fried chips out of various root veggies one time and wasn't all that impressed though! However, you CAN get Terra brand sweet potato chips, and if there is a Trader Joe's anywhere near, they now have parsnip chips and mixed root veggie chips which are REALLY good! The parsnip chips are the lowest carb of the three kinds and remind me most of potato chips albeit a little sweeter tasting.

you could try kevins #4 white bread recipe,(i add a tbl of vanilla) only don't let them raise. put the dough in the fridge, let it stay in there for four hours. you then break off pieces and roll flat, season w/roasted sesame seeds, or poppy seeds, or garlic or all three. whatever you like. roll a rolling pin over the seasoned dough to press the seasonings in and bake. they bake up crispie and delish. i then smear cream cheese on them and dip away. yumm!!! hth. these are good w/cinn and powdered splenda. or you could fry up a piece for a fried dough experiment and drizzle sf syrup over them. ok, guess what i am making tomorrow. by the way, after baked they freeze great and you can take out as wanted and eat right away. i always have a stash on hand.

l/c wraps nuke up very well into chips if you can afford the carbs Mission l/c wraps are the bomb this way!!!!!! I cut them with a pizza cutter into wedges before nuking and then nuke for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. They will get crunchy just like tortilla chips.
wahhhh I wish we had a Trader Joe's or Wholefoods Seems like we have everything else under the sun!!!!!! |
