So it compares to polyd for caramelizing. That means it should work well when I attempt to make butterscotch candy with it. Hey, if you used yacon syrup instead of the molasses in your syrup, the net carbs would drop to almost nothing.
Do you get a laxative effect from polyd too? I don't get that from polyd or inulin, only from most SA's.

Was satisfied with a small portion of dinner, will see if I want anything else tonight or not. Praying that it will continue to suppress appetite.
although, it could get very expensive if you keep using it this way. You might want to switch to inulin powder or one of the chewable fibre supplements that have been mentioned.

Bev-Ann...thanks! However, I read the thread and the thread w/in the thread again...it still doesn't exactly say what yacon syrup is.

I see that some of you are using it as appetite suppressants, and fiber benefits....and a whole lot of talk about inulin. Good tips on the FibreChoice tablets too.

I'm gathering it's a root because it's like molasses...but was curious where in the world it's found, etc....

Just curious....

Nothing can really take the place of good molasses...so, big thumbs up if it works!

I'm enjoying reading about the candy making experiments which is always a challenge in the low carb realm of things.

The yacon syrup thread is here:

Yacon Syrup?

I noticed by accident that I had no appetite whatsoever after doing a taste test on it. That's how this thread got started.

Char, just do a web search for yacon, it will take you to many sites which tell you about how and where yacon comes from. Hope this helps.

I bought some syrup and I think it tastes like sorghum which is not as strong as molasses but has that sort of flavor. I always loved sorghum and this tastes just like it to me. I added some to some squash and it was yummy.

Also in reading about this I came across this study on making yacon candy. I thought some of you might like to read it

If you're going to buy it in powder form, just make sure there are no other ingredients in it. It should be nothing but inulin or oligofructose. The NOW brand does say that it has fructose in it, but we've determined that it's not enough to make a difference so it's ok for that product.
I have been on about 1/2 tsp. Chicolin once a day for abut 2 weeks now. Have you had any nausea associated with this? It doesn't seem to me that this amount would do much of anything for me and I would like to up the amount I take. It could come from something else I am taking but the nausea started about the same time. It is not an overpowering nausea but enough to be bothersome to me. I guess I will stop taking tomorrow and see what happens but I would like your input as well as that of anyone else. Thanks for listening. Dixie

No, no side effects whatsoever for me. I use 1 level tsp of Chicolin 2 times a day. But it is a soluable fibre so if your diet is typically low-fibre you might need some time for your body to adjust.
