Floating hard boiled eggs??
Just boiled some eggs and noticed that some of them floated and some didn't.
I'm thinking my past experiences with boiling eggs, they usually don't float...... Why did these eggs float? Do I want to eat these? |

Hmm..I'm thinking the floating ones are not good...and air has gotten into them somehow..Let us know when you crack them open..

Blabbermouth!!!

Floating eggs are fine. All it means is that the air pocket in the end of the egg (which is normal) has increased in size as the egg reduced. This is a normal and natural process on all eggs.
You can safely use eggs up to a month after they expire. ![]() |

They say that if a raw egg floats, it's rotten.
I don't know that I've ever seen a hard boiled egg float, but I do think there's some kind of science class project where you can float hard boiled eggs in salt water. Do you salt your water? I'd go ahead and crack one open. You'll definitely know if it's not good. ![]() |

Floating egg update............
Yesterday I boiled about 10 eggs, of which 4 floated. Thought I'd make some deviled eggs today! I took the 4 "floating" eggs and cracked them open. Smelled and tasted fine - only thing I noticed that the air pocket seemed to be alittle bigger than the other eggs. Ain't dead yet So based on my experience (this time) - floating eggs are OK! |

Floating Hard-Boiled Eggs
Actually, the older (within reason, of course) a raw egg is, the better it peels once hard-boiled. This is both from my experience AND Food Network :O)
