Which sweetners do you use for every day use and also for baking?
I have been using splenda from the store and also Nutrasweet from the store. Either tastes fine to me and does not bother me but I realize that when I am trying to stay at 20 to 25 carbs Splenda does add more. Where do you get liquid splenda that I see y'all use? How many carbs for this as compared to the one I am using? I have never seen liquid splenda.
Also, is Erythrol (sp) the sugar alcohol that does not cause laxative problems? How many carbs does it have? Can I buy it at Walmort of a health food store? Thanks so much. I am trying to use as little carbs as possible right now. Sonja in Florida |

hi Sonja! Many use a liquid sucralose that's sold online but is extremely difficult to get (a sort of "black market" type of site with strange ordering instructions due to limited supply & high demand)...others of us use Fiberfit liquid sold here at Netrition. I love it. It's not as concentrated as the other kind but tastes clean, contains no carb-adding maltodextrin (filler) and has a little fiber, which we all can use
...for cooking there's Fiberfit powder (still waiting for mine, so no comment yet) and sa's like erythritol, which causes no tummy problems for many. It's found at some health food stores, Netrition sells it too. read the link below for why most folks count sa's as carb free: http://www.netrition.com/lowcarbsu...itol_page.htmlhth! |

Can someone come up with a chart we can refer to for subbing sweeteners? As a basis, say for 1 cup of sugar you can sub 1 cup of Splenda, but what if you want to mix sweeteners, like 1/4 cup Splenda and the equivalent of one, two or three other sweeteners to equal one cup of sugar, so that's the equivalent of 3/4 cup. So if you use Sweet One, E or X, Fiberfit, liquid Stevia, Diabetisweet or others, how much of each would you use? Do you guys measure E and X measure for measure as you would sugar? I have Sweet One in packets and liquid Stevia and have no idea how much to use when adding with other sweeteners
I just wing it! I hope this post doesn't sound as confusing to you as this subbing stuff does does to me. Thanks for any help. Last edited by katcha; 11-21-2005 at 05:50 PM.. |

OKAY
Okay, I guess I see what I can't find the liquid splenda anywhere. I will try the fiberfit.
Katcha, I am with you. Could anyone figure out the substitute amounts, and how much of each one? This weekend I tried to make homemade candy with splenda and it was not very good. Then I read where you should mix Splenda with Erythritol (no idea of how much of each one). I really don't understand the difference between all these sweetners. I just know I don't care for the taste of sweet and low and I don't like the way my stomach feels when I eat sugar alcohol (can't remember which one). thanks again, Sonja |

katcha, I couldn't agree more! It would be really wonderful to work out some kind of chart and turn it into a Sticky, so that it could be easily referred to when converting a recipe.
What we need for that endeavor is SCOTT123! And some other nice folks who have done tons of research.I really like to meddle with sweeteners to find the right ZING, but it's very difficult. Even just finding out which sweeteners have which "sugar" equivalency is a job in itself. Most of the sweeteners have a recommended "serving size", but so many do not equate what the serving size would be, relative to a standard size serving (or amount) of sugar. Gosh I hope that makes sense. It's soooo infuriating!

I would probably give Fiberfit a try if it wasn't so expensive. It's twice the price of "the other" liquid Splenda and that doesn't include shipping. It's probably fine for someone to use to sweeten their coffee or for someone who only occasionally makes low carb sweets.
I came up with these figures a while back so I could compare how much each sweetener costs to use. TrishZ is gone, but hers fell price-wise between Sweetzfree and Fiberfit. REAL SUGAR 4 pound bag = 9 1/4 cups ($1.49) Per cup = 16˘ GRANULAR SPLENDA 3.8 ounce box = 4 1/2 cups sugar ($3.29) Per cup = 73˘ LIQUID SPLENDA (Sweetzfree) 2 ounce bottle = 48 cups sugar ($32) Per cup = 67˘ - price includes shipping FIBERFIT 4 ounce bottle = 4 cups sugar ($4.95) Per cup = $1.24 + shipping 16 ounce bottle = 16 cups sugar ($17.99) Per cup = $1.12 + shipping 8 ounce powder = 12 1/2 cups sugar ($16.99) Per cup = $1.36 + shipping |

I use a combo of sweeteners, and many folks can't even tell the products I bake are sugar free. If a recipe calls for a cup of sugar, I'll use 1/4 to 1/3 cup each of Erythritol and Xylitol (both available from Netrition), 1/4 tsp. of that "black market" liquid splenda, and 10 drops of NuNaturals liquid stevia.
