Costco shoppers
Does anyone shop at Costco? I received a gift card but I've never shopped there before (it's over an hour away.) What low-carb products do they carry? Any?

Costco is a great place to buy organic eggs, heavy cream, cheeses of every variety, almonds, pecans, walnuts, Pria Carb bars, frozen organic berries, Carb Chopper tortilas, and individually packaged chicken breasts.
Their steak and other meat is the best! |

Not to mention, their prices are highly competitive. They're not always the cheapest, but they're generally pretty close. Their meat is fantastic. I've stopped buying pork at the local grocery store because it's all injected with a sugar & salt solution to keep it longer. You can get a whole pork loin at Costco for 1.99 a pound -- it's all meat, no waste. I usually cut it into two pork roasts and 6 - 8 pork chops. I also buy a boneless rib-eye roast at around $8 a pound and cut it into big, thick steaks -- they usually sell for $11 a pound or more at the grocery store.

I love and practially live at Costco!! Half n Half, Whipping Cream, cheese, eggs, hamburger (fabulous), pork, salad (really cheap), apples, nuts (pistachios, cashews, walnuts, almonds), string cheese, s/f jello. All of these things are very reasonable priced.
I also get everything for my kids lunches there. I just find the quality of their stuff is really really good. Their Kirkland brand products are always excellent. I always buy their paper towels and toliet paper. Their Kirkland clothes detergent is really good at a great price. I basically shop there and only pick up a couple things at the grocery store. Then again, I do have four kids!! Go! It is totally worth it!!!

We have a nice thread on this on Suzanne Somers site ~ I'll cut and paste the address here. Now, we don't count carb grams, so not I'm not sure if these are "low carb" or not:
http://www.suzannesomers.com/Communi...&M=True&S=True ====== I hope that works. We do the bulk of our shopping at Costco also. I'd be lost without it. *Ü* |

I adore Costco. I find they don't all carry the same things though, i.e., the Carb Chopper tortillas - not at MY Costco.
However, their cheese selection is great, LOVE their Farmer's brand applewood smoked bacon and any meat I've ever bought there has been great. Their smoked salmon is excellent, and their 1 lb. can of (refrigerated) lump crabmeat is wonderful and has a long code date - I always keep a can in the fridge for a quick meal - crab louie, crab cocktail, LC crabcakes. Their Kirkland solid-pack tuna is really good. Great buys on nuts, olive oil, butter. I'd say go and look around and see what you can find that works for you! I also have a Tilia FoodSaver so I repackage a lot of things - it's just DH and me so buying in the quantities they sell is nice if you can repackage the stuff up. I also buy 40# of birdseed in there in 10# bags per box - it's maybe $10, I think a little less, and we enjoy feeding the birds in our yard - it's very cheap entertainment. Also their vitamins and fish oil caps and other supplements are highly-rated and comparatively inexpensive. Char

i love costco and buy most of what has been mentioned above.
there is one new thing i found there last week. they had samples of fruit2o, a 20 ounce drink made of spring water, flavorings and splenda. it was so good that i bought a case of 24 bottles, 6 each of rasberry, strawberry, grape and lemon. i get tired of plain water and diet soda so this is a refreshing treat. |

Just be careful with going overboard. I sometimes do this and end up with stuff that perishes too quickly and as Charski said, not all the Costcos have LC products. We dont really have anything LC at our Costco. Still the meats, cheeses, and bulk frozen items like chicken strips are great. I dont have an extra freezer either so I have to keep this in mind when buying there.

I love Costco. While they do have the Pria bars (which I don't eat), they don't have packaged "low carb" food. Course, we're not supposed to be eating much of that anyway.
Can't beat all the fresh choice meats, cheeses, etc. We go through a couple gallons of half & half a month. We also love the Blue Diamond smoked almonds and the Macadamia nuts. Wow. And the Splenda! I stay away from their Ceasar salad. The dressing comes from a bucket and has quite a bit of sugar in it (6 grams? something like that). Sometimes I buy it anyway and use my own dressing. Same goes for their spinach salad and their Greek salad.
