Shugr - anyone hear of this new sweetener?

Apparently, it is a combination of erythritol, maltodextrin, tagatose and a trace of sucralose. Their site does not say what the carbs are, but tagatose has 1/3 the calories of sugar and comes from milk, I guess. I'd like to know what the carb count is. Hope people will e-mail them to find out. They suggest it is a good sweetener for diabetics and low-carbers and that it acts just like sugar; can caramelize, etc.

And at only $50 a lb., it sounds like quite the bargain

The label says 0 calories, but knowing maltodextrin and tagatose both have calories, I think they're playing the small serving size game.

Also, if anyone does write them, I'd like to know how big a serving is and what the conversion to sugar is.

Scott, I didn't notice that. That is a lot of money for 1 lb. I think I'll pass. I don't think Shugr is going to get off the ground very well.

Hey Scott, the conversion to sugar is 1:1. That's why I love using Shugr when I'm baking products. I don't have to re-measure things. Was Shugr really $50 dollars a pound at some point?!?! I've been buying Shugr quite a bit recently off the Vitamin Shoppe website (www.vitaminshoppe.com) and there they charge $19.99 for 1.3 lbs. of Shugr (which on the container says is 410 servings). I think this is cheaper than the actual Shugr website! Someone also told me that Amazon.com offers Shugr for even cheaper b/c they have a 20% discount. I haven't actually checked it out for myself yet since I don't need to re-fill yet.

Yes, Amazon has been selling SHUGR for $15.99/for a 1.3 lb container

I just can't get any info on the carb count for servings larger than a teaspoon.

How do you count it?

Thanks, Rosie
