Romantic Valentine's Dinner Ideas?
I truly appreciate all the yummy suggestions for Valentine's Day sweets and treats, but I need some good menu ideas for a romantic dinner for two.
In the "big city" any restaurant worth going to is so overcrowded on Valentine's Day that we'd really rather stay home. The biggest problem is that since low carbing and finding all the great recipes here, dh is getting a little spoiled and quite used to very good meals already! LOL So I'd like something that really stands out.... and fool-proof, too, since there won't be any time for experimenting. Anyone? Thanks! Raini |

Hi Raini!
Here's a really good one! I posted this at Christmas time over on the Golden Years thread. It's very easy and makes a lovely presentation. Add a nice salad and some cooked veggies and you have a great meal. Enjoy! Lobster Tails In Champagne Sauce 3 Frozen Lobster tails, or 1 lb. of Shrimp 2/3 Cup of champagne or sparkling wine 2 Scallions Minced 14 tsp. salt 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream 4 Tbls. unsalted butter 2 scallions, cut into very thin strips for garnish Rinse lobster tails. In skillet, combine lobster, champagne, scallions, salt. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover, simmer 15 minutes. Remove lobster. Add cream to sauce in skillet. Boil quickly until reduced to about 1/3 cup. With a wire whisk, beat in butter 1Tblsp. at a time, until smooth. Keep warm. Remove lobster from shells, Slice into medallions. Spoon sauce over each. Sprinkle with scallions. Makes two servings. How to handle a lobster tail: The easiest way to handle a lobster tail is with the help of a good pair of sharp scissors. Start by cutting along the underside of the tail, first on one side, then the other. Next gently pull all the meat from the shell. Place the lobster tail flat on a cutting board, then use a sharp knife to cut into 1/4" - 1/2" medallions |

You're very welcome Lynn!
I Pm'd Raini to let her know this was here. Hope she sees it. I got this recipie about 20 yrs ago, out of Cosmo. magazine. It was printed as a suggestion for Valentine's Day dinner. It was really good! It's so easy too. Hope you get a chance to make it sometime. It's worth it! Heck, don't wait for a boyfriend. Make it for yourself! Best regards, Chris |

A question for galoutofdixe:
What would you serve with your delicious lobster tails? Would you go just with lovely veggies, or perhaps some Dreamfields pasta? |

Hi Maintaining Mom and Patt!
Mom, Personally I'd just go with the veggies and salad. Maybe asperagus or green beans. I haven't ventured into the dreamfields..., yet. I bet the dreamfields would be very good with it, although the recipie doesn't make very much sauce. Just enough to drizzle over the lobster. The original recipie suggested pan-roasted potatoes and green beans, with chocolates for desert. I think that was just to keep it easy. Before lowcarb, I would make it with asperagus and garlic mashed potatoes. Yummmy! Mom, your Valentines dinner menu sounds delish! This year I'm fixing a prime rib roast from Omaha Steaks. Love their stuff! Fixing that with veggies and a salad for me and adding a baked potato with sour cream for Dh. Also an Omaha Steaks 'Tiramisu' for Dh. I think I'll fix some strawberries and sf chocolate for me too!Wishing you both a very nice Valentines Day! Best regards, Chris |

I always found roasted cornish game hens look really special.
Try finedinings dot com for great recipe ideas. It's not a low carb site but many of the recipes are lc or can be modified to lc. |

I'm totally in agreement with NulloModo's idea! That (almost an exact iteration) is on our menu. The kids will get a nice Dreamfields Mac & cheese.

This will be our first married Valentine's Day. We have in the past attempted to go out and it isn't worth it! Although with Valentine's Day being on a Monday maybe it won't be too bad...who knows.
I want to make a nice dinner here at home. He loves marinated chicken on the grill, but I would like a nice steak for this special day. I am terrible at grilling steak unless it is filet mignon (my Dad says you can't screw that one up!) My husband isn't a low carber, but loves salad and veggies. I don't think I will make a starch for him since he doesn't have a big appetite as it is. I am thinking... Nice steak Nice salad mushrooms (for me) Rolls (for him) Veggie (not sure yet) A nice dessert for him. I got a fondue pot, but I wish there was a way to make regular and low carb/sugarfree chocolate fondue at the same time! I would love to dip berries in it for dessert. I may just make some chocolate covered strawberries for me. |

Mmmmm... Lots of good ideas! I want to try to make the lobster, but have to wait until tomorrow to do my shopping-- not sure where I'll find lobster tails on short notice. (We were out of town and just got back.)
I'm also thinking of filet mignon as well as the lobster... I have to agree that it's a hard one to mess up! Asparagus I already have... maybe a baked potato for dh, too. We don't drink, but I still need to find some champagne for the sauce. Might buy some and give the rest to a neighbor. I also want to set a cheery table--- red tablecloth and cute red and white dishes. I'm going to Goodwill in the morning. If I don't find something there, I'll maybe look at Mikasa for dishes... not sure where for the red tablecloth. Thanks again for the great ideas! Raini |

I know it's not fancy, but it will be special to us. We're having spagetti and meatballs (the fam will have the regular, whole grain kind and I have dreamfield's for me
). They'll have garlic toast and I'm going to try to concoct something low carb garlicy and cheesey to compliment. We're also going to have low carb chimi cheesecakes with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and strawberries for dessert. Yummy!! |

My family wants something different. So they will have B.Q. Ribs, potato salad, greenbeans and walnut brownies its in the 60 's here so it will be something a little different but will still fit in and give them a hint of spring. i may fix them some warm dinner rolls.
I will be having chicken and boiled eggs. ![]() |

lol, this is really old and I never said what a chimi cheesecake is! It's basically a tortilla rolled with a cheesecake filling and topped with chocolate or berry sauce and whipped cream. Pretty easy to make low carb.
This year, I am making steak, salad and something to go with it (not sure what yet) and red velvet cake for dessert. |

Sometimes it's fun to see old threads resurrected! Ideas that were discussed THEN are often helpful to folks who haven't been here that long.
We're having homesmoked baby back ribs with homemade BBQ sauce, sweet potato fries, and a big steamed artichoke with wasabe mayo. Might or might not make dessert. |
