Headaches from "fake sugars" :(

Hi everyone,

I've tried them all! Splenda, Natrasweet, torani SF, sugar alcohols (in ice cream, bars etc.) and they all give me a headache after I get a bit 'woozy'. Like today i only had 1/4 cup of dreyers SF ice cream and now my head is spinning

Is there anything else that i can use?

Thanks!

Hi Paupauco,
Sorry to hear you are having a problem with the sweeteners...but like most things "once size does NOT fit all". I get a headache from Equal so I know what you are going through. Have you tried LoHan or Stevia? They are found at most health food stores. They can be a tad pricey . Good luck in finding something that works for you.
Ciao for now, Mary >^.,.^<

I know exactly what you mean! I can't take any of the AS that I've tried out there.

That said, there is one I just purchased and am cautiously optimistic about--Slimsweet. It's a low carb sweetener derived from kiwi fruit. The ingredients listed are: Levelose, Momordica grovenori, 80%, Mogrosides (fruit). It's about 1/8th sweeter than sugar. I've used it 2x and no headaches so far. I don't plan on using it often but it's nice to have a little sweetness for baking!

I believe there's another product called Thermosweet and it's made from the same fruit sweetner. Haven't tried that one though.

Hth,
Lori

I had bad headaches from nutrasweet. I have no problems with stevia and use it all the time now.

The first ingredient listed, levulose, is a synonym for fructose. Very very bad stuff. I think there may be some diabetics that are okay with fructose but from a low carbing perspective, it will knock you out of ketosis immediately.

I thought I remember reading about this that the way it was made it's ok from a blood sugar perspective?? I remember reading a post about Ruby Tuesday's cheesecake (the originial one) that was made with this and someone posted a whole thing about Levelose. I'll have to do a search and see. If this is the case forget about using it and I'm sorry!!!!

No need to be sorry Lori. If anyone should be sorry it's the makers of Slimsweet for misleading ingredient labeling. I mean, really, one shouldn't need a degree in chemistry to purchase low carb products.
