Pumpkin "pie" mistake, hoping for good results
I was hurrying around trying to get the kitchen cleaned and a LC crustless pumpkin pie made. I decided to try it in a pie pan this time, so I'll hopefully have better portion control. Anyway I measured out only 1/4 C of Splenda because I planned on using a little DaVinchi's Vanilla, and some liquid Stevia, in hopes of avoiding any bitterness.........anyway I mixed everything all together and got the pie in the oven, and after I got the mixer all washed up, I noticed the small bowl with the Splenda still sitting there.........oops. I had tasted the mixture before putting it in the oven, and it tasted sweet enough to me........I'm just hoping it will set up OK. Looks like I saved even MORE carbs! I'll report back on the outcome! I think custard type pies are pretty forgiving, so we'll see!

If it tasted good before you put it in, my guess is it'll be fine. If not I'd put the whole thing in a bowl, sweeten it up and eat it like pudding...
ya THINK this happened to me before??? |

OK so we tried the "pie" tonight and it held it's shape pretty well, and I had high hopes for the taste..........NOT what I was hoping for.....it had a nasty bitter after taste, so we did just what ROBINRS suggested.........we each added 1 packet of Splenda, and the whipped cream, and mixed it all together, and it was much better! I'm not sure, but I think the DaVinci syrup in larger amounts adds that after taste. Stevia can be bitter too, but I've had this same after taste in things I didn't use the stevia in, but DID use DaVinci's Any one else run into that?

Glad that worked out for you Mary!
I did this a few weeks ago and I made the mistake of adding half Splenda and half Equal and of course, the equal disappeared during hte baking process and it was sooo sad. I mixed it up with some cream cheese and more Splenda and even my 11yo son dug in! This was before I found Davinci. I've never had the aftertaste in the things I use Davinci in. I have tasted a bitterness in "only" Splenda sweetened items that is not baked, and it tastes better if I add a tiny bit of another sweetener. |

What I've noticed is that in larger amounts, DaVinci's has a bit of a sharp after "feel" more than taste! I find it to be a bit chemically, depending on the flavor, and that does interfere wtih the flavor. I think it's best to mix with other sweeteners.
