Check the recipe room or the lowcarb recipe help board.

If you don't want to make your own, I just tried Lawry's CarbOptions Hickory BBQ sauce - it's quite tasty!

At Safeway - it was with all the other BBQ sauces/dressings. It's just recently showed up on the shelves here in Seattle. Blue label on the bottle, if that helps you find it.

The CarbOptions BBQ sauce form Lawry is AWESOME. This is one LC product that really has gotten it right. This stuff is better than ANY other BBQ sauce I have ever used. I'm a "pepper head" and like spicy foods and this definitely has a little kick plus the best molasses-y flavor I've tasted in a LC BBQ sauce. Very dark and thick. I would not even bother trying to make my own as long as this is available. It is 3g per 2 Tbsp though so might need to be used sparingly in some phases (and not induction). You could cut it down with vinegar and worcestershire sauce fo a lower carb alternative.

All the CarbOptions items are from Unilever corp which distributes nationwide but I have noticed some stores carrybing the items a little sooner than others. Also some put them all in one LC section while others put them with their peer products. All have a distinctive light blue label.

BTW - the CarbOptions (Lawry) Steak Sauce is also excellent - very much like A-1.

Bruce's BBQ sauce is great and easy to make. Do a search on the recipe board.

I'll save you the trouble. Here is Bruce's which is pretty good. Dana Carpender's recipe in her 500 Low Carb recipe book is also good.

That's a slighly old recipe. Here's the updated version.

32 Ounces tomato sauce
4 tablespoons Splenda
4 tablespoons distilled vinegar
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons paprika
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 tablespoons liquid Barbecue Smoke®
3 tablespoons sugar free maple syrup
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons dehydrated onion flakes
1/2 cup bourbon, optional

1. Bring ingredients to a slow simmer in a small sauce pan and reduce by about a third if you want to use it as a brush-on sauce.

2. Using a funnel, pour into a one-quart jar. If it doesn't fit, pour it back into the sauce pan and reduce until it does.

This is nice and thick and you can adjust the splenda and the cayenne to make it as sweet or as spicy as you like.

Dana Carpender's Barbecue Sauce Recipe

I just thought I'd add Dana Carpender's recipe. I use it frequently and find it very tasty.

BBQ Sauce – this recipe is straight from the low carb cook book:

1 clove garlic, crushed
1 small onion, minced
¼ cup butter
4 TBS Splenda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp chili powder
½ tsp black pepper
2 tsp blackstrap molasses
1 ½ cups water
¼ cup cider vinegar
1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
1 TBS prepared horseradish
1 - 6 oz. tomato paste
1 TBS liquid smoke

1. In a saucepan, cook the garlic and onion in the butter for a few minutes.

2. Stir in the Splenda, salt, mustard, paprika, chili powder, and pepper. Add in the molasses, water, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and horseradish; stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.

3. Whisk in the tomato paste and liquid smoke. Let the sauce simmer another 5 to 10 minutes.

4. Let the mixture cool, transfer it to a jar with a tight-fitting lid, and store in the refrigerator.

Yield: Abt. 2 2/3 cups of sauce. Each 2-TBS sering has 3 grams of carbs and 1 gram of fiber, for a total of 2 grams of usable carbs and no protein.
