soy flour
I saw soy flour at the store. I am a newbie, but have read a little about using this instead of flour. Is this okay to use? To what proportion do you replace the flour? Any side effects?

I haven't used it myself, but I did see this recipe on the recipe board that I've been wanting to try.
Tresa Low carb Crab Cakes recipe Nuetzel's Crabcakes (posted at lowcarb cooking) 1 lb. lump crabmeat (picked) 1 cup crushed pork rinds 1/3 cup heavy cream 1 egg, lightly beaten 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 tsp fresh chopped parley 2 tsp minced onions, optional 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp ground white pepper soy flour butter or vegetable oil 1. Place crabmeat in large bowl. Cover with bread crumbs. Moisten with milk. 2. Combine beaten egg with mayonnaise in small bowl. Add baking powder, parsley, onions, salt and pepper. Pour over crab mixture. Toss lightly until well mixed. 3. Form into 10 large crabcakes. Place on plate. Refrigerate at least 1 hour. 4. Dust lightly with flour. Heat butter or oil until hot. Fry crabcakes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve. |

I use soy flour to bread my chicken. I dump about 1/4 cup in a bowl, add it to a couple of beaten eggs and voila. It doesn't get crispy but I'd rather have that than naked chicken!

Wow! Thanks for the yummy recipe. I saw the soy flour in the bulk section for$1.49/lb. Thought that sounded pretty cheap. Does anyone know what the conversion would be for baking? Are there any side effects?

Soy isn't necessarily good for you! It can have a negative impact on the Thyroid. Check out this article:
http://thyroid.about.com/cs/soysdownsides/ Some people don't mind those possible side effects. And, some people (me for one!) find the taste of soy absolutely revolting. Your taste buds may vary! ![]() |
