Dottie.....Question about New LC Breads on the market?

Would like to hear from some of those who have been lcing for a while. Are these breads good. Should we be worried about hidden carbs? My local grocery now carries the Sara Lee Delightful wheat, I believe it was 8 net carbs per slice, Arnold's has the atkins label on it with (i think) 8 or 9 carbs and Merita also has one with about the same no. of carbs. Does anyone have a recommendation on any of these. I was thinking about toasting and slicing thru the thickness to have two slices for a sandwich. (an old weight watchers hint)

I would get the Nature's Own Healthy Line (I believe that's what it's called) that has a green banner across the bag. It's 7 carbs less 2 fiber per slice and has the texture of real bread and is quite good. I like it a a lot for everything...sandwiches, french toast, etc.

It's a good bread, but frankly for 9g carbs per slice, that's a bit high. They're full sized slices -but thin and I believe they have the high fructose corn syrup in them.
It's all about choices though! I'm glad to see some "not so expensive" breads on the market. Who wants to pay $6 a loaf for some nasty soy based bread with slices the size of crackers? lol
Personally, I like a nice whole grain bread, so I usually keep the Orowheat light 100% whole Wheat bread on hand(5g net carbs per small slice). I also read some great little articles about how sourdough and rye breads are lower glycemic than whole wheat bread, so I also keep a loaf of light sourdough on hand(1g net carbs for 2 slices).
Anyway, that just an IMO As bread companies come around and realize people DO want choices like whole grains and lower carbs, I'm sure the products available to consumers will grow even more!

Edit: that's 11g carbs for 2 slices -not 1g!

I too am glad to see some more options out there, and companies that are not going to "stick it to us" because we are low carbing. Natural Ovens bread is $6 a loaf here, outrageous!

All we have in the stores here are the Sara Lee and the Orowheat.....and the soy "stuff". I really like the Sara Lee whole wheat but only eat 1/2 slice occasionally as toast with eggs.

We recently found "Carb-Lite" breads and buns at SuperTarget. It is made by Bread of Life Bakery out of Indpls In. It is AWESOME!
They have white bread and cinnamon-raisin (maybe 5 raisins in the whole loaf, lol). Can't remember exactly what the carb count is for the cinnamon raisin, but the white bread is 3g carb per slice minus 2g fiber, for eec of 1g per slice. It is a soy protein bread with 8g protein/slice. I'm not crazy about soy at all, but do not taste it in this bread.

They also have hamburger and hotdog buns. I've not had the hotdog buns, but the hamburger buns are WONDERFUL! They are large and a little dense (unlike non-lc buns that are blobs of NO nutrition and full airy). One sandwich is a meal - without any sides - very filling. My DH thinks they are the best buns he's ever had - including any non-lc buns. The label on the hamburger buns says (I think-if I remember correctly, since I'm at work so don't have the pkg in front of me) there are 8.7g carb, but there 6g fiber and 23g protein, for net carbs of 2.7g/bun.

I was skeptical of the count, however, because both DH and I are VERY carb sensitive and try to stay in the 20g/day (give or take) and the bread/buns have had NO negative effect on either of us.
The price is a little high, but VERY worth it since we don't eat a lot of it at once. The bread is $5.50/loaf for 24oz (approx 20 slices); and the buns are $6.00 for a package of 8.

They are in the bakery section at our SuperTargets. If you don't see it - ask. It sells out quickly on the shelf and they keep more in the freezer and will bring it out for you if you ask.

Aunt Millie's Whole Grain.

4 carbs/slice and priced the same as the rest if the Aunt Millie's line.

So far it does not have any really noticable "low carb" stickers or anything.

Thanks everyone for your help.
Dottie: I did see fructose corn syrup in one of the low carb breads but can't remember which one.
I think I'll try to find the sourdough bread for now.
Am still kinda afraid of it though. thanks a bunch

Dottie,
Did I read that right?? Only ONE carb for 2 slices of the light sourdough bread? It just seem too good to be true!!! I will be searching out this bread tomorrow!! I've only bought the Nature's Own that's 5 net carbs per slice. I'd love to find something I could eat more often. Will definitely be on the lookout for the Carb-Lite brand at Super Target, also. Thanks.

Kim: Yikes no! It's 11g per 2 slices. Darned keyboard has a built in "no double letter accidental typing" thing! 11, not 1

Is this something out that's new by Nature's Own? I've never seen a sour dough low-carb bread by them. Will have to be on the lookout for it now. I get the healthy line with the green banner on it by them and it's quite good too.
