Where do you buy almond flour?
I have seen a few recipes posted that call for almond flour. Where do I buy this? Can you find it in the grocery store?
Thanks in advance. |

I can buy it, packaged at my (very large) grocery store. Bob's Red Mill is the brand.
But you can also make it. Its just almonds ground into powder. Use a food processor or coffee grinder. |

Hi, coolbreeze. You can also grind them in a blender. Just make sure you only do about 10 at a time (otherwise the result is almond butter instead of almond flour). I order mine online. I buy from a nut farm and buy in bulk (I have two refrigerators). It's more cost effective for me and the shipping isn't too bad. You can find several places by doing a search or you can order it here from Netrition. I haven't found it in the grocery stores where I live but I have bought it at my local health food store.
Good luck! Karen

I find Bob's Red Mill brand at Krogers and other grocery chains. Price is $5-$6.

STOP WITH YOUR TRADER JOE'S!!!! I MISS THEM SOOOOO MUCH!
How much is it at Trader Joe's Bab_Indy? I pay about $7 for it at a health food store in town here...but I would give ANYTHING for a Trader Joe's in TN. I even wrote to them and asked if they would ever come to TN and they said they are working on coming to the South....just don't know when...something about warehousing...offered my basement...they !! Can't blame a person for trying .Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack the thread...was just curious as to what the price is on the almond flower at TJ's...Might be worth the 4 hour drive to Ohio for it . Ciao for now, Mary >^.,.^<

It seems that I paid $3-4 for the 1lb bag last time. I keep them in my freezer. Their nuts are priced great and good variety too. Not too mention all the other good stuff! And yes, - I'm a TJ's junkie

Thanks for the info bab_indy. I thought they might be priced low. I am hoping TJ's comes to TN soon...I couldn't believe we didn't check it out before we moved here
I used to live in Marin Co. and the San Rafael TJ's was my favorite place to shop...OK, I'm outta here...thanks again, Mary >^.,.^< |

I just found out from their web-site (Trader Joe's) that there is one in the Columbus,OH area. It would be a little drive but I was willing. I called them first and they told me they didn't carry the almond flour. So I didn't make the trip. Anyone else from the Ohio area checked them out? I wonder why the stores don't carry the same items. I read on the forums that they were really cheap on the flour. I sure wish they carried it.

My Trader Joes in NJ doesn't carry the almond flour. I've noticed people from CA are able to get it at their TJ's. I purchase my almond flour from netrition. I just tried making some in my coffee grinder and it came out really well.

Just a comment on the Trader Joe's tangent. I know that the different stores carry different items. My family is in Indiana and they can't get a lot of the things we have here in Ca. I've even found minor differences between stores in the Bay Area. So calling first is a good idea if it's any distance away.
Not to rub it in, but I have one by my work, one by my house and a couple in between. ![]() |

Almond Flour
MY local Trader Don's doesnt carry almond flour either, and when I asked the manager about it he said "almond flour???" No clue. I told him he better get with it to keep up with the low carb craze. I was able to purchase it from the Whole Foods store, it was about $8 for a one pound bag.
Hi Hannamom.... Im from Jersey, you from Jersey?? lol... I live in South Jersey. |

TJ now carries a few lc options - in addition to a lot of their foods that are natually lc (fresh/frozen foods and veggies, cheeses!, dips, oils, etc).
They carry lc pasta and sauce (not their brand, darielle I think but I've not tried it), lc chocolate/candy, powdered stevia, and a lot I'm sure I'm forgetting. I have tried their tortilla triangles and pasta twirls (5carb per serving snack foods.) Not bad. Triangles kinda like doritos and twirls reminded be of corn chips. Soy is the main ingredient as I recall. I did try the lc bread - not for me! Too high (6c per slice) and didn't even taste very good. For lc variety I prefer a local "boutique" market chain - Mollie Stones. But they also differ among stores. Only one in my area has a lc section. But it's an entire aisle! That's where I found 4 kinds of splenda sweetened pickles (Mt. Olive brand.) Plus they have a butcher dept, specialty cheese and great fresh veggies. Just a bit spendy - cha ching! ![]()

Oh Man...I forgot all about Mollie Stone's. I miss them and Whole Foods and Wild Oats...although, the last time I was in CA they closed the Wild Oats near my mom's house. I also miss Andonico's....but most of all I MISS TJ's!
We are starting to get some great stores out here so locarbing is getting a lot easier. I will say that I am enjoying our Super Walmarts a bit more now that they are carrying the lowcarb goodies. OH, I'm sorry...YOU DON'T HAVE SUPER WALMARTS IN CA ! OH WELL....>^.,.^< |

No Bab_Indy...Super Walmart isn't carrying it as of yet. They did carry the Bob's Redmill brand of Flaxmeal and a couple of other things but then all of a sudden they are no longer carrying them. I think I will let the manager know about how almond flour is VERY IMPORTANT on this WOE and they should start to carry it. See if he
at me.Ciao for now, Mary >^.,.^< PS I used to live in San Anselmo and the closest Walmart was in Rohnert Park. Don't know why CA is being so stingy about letting them in? |

ME TOO...I FEEL SORRY FOR US GUYS TOO! BUT, we are going to CA in May/June and I am stocking up on all sorts of stuff! We have a motorhome and that baby is going to be stocked to the roof with all sorts of stuff. I went to Sam's Club today and the 2lb. bag of almonds I usually get have gone up $2
I wonder if I could grow an almond tree out here? Sure worth a try. Thanks guys....>^.,.^< |

I asked at our Trader Joe's if they could get the almond meal, as it was branded Trader Joe's in the western stores. The manager told me they couldn't even request to carry it, as the distribution centers are different for the western and midwest/eastern. The buyers are completely different, too. He did say that there were going to be changes in the distribution, and that may open up some of the product lines this way. One can only hope.
removed has some great prices on very fine almond meal (they call it meal, but it's flour fineness).

great source for almond flour etc
I just received my first order from removed
almond meal (flour) for $3.00/lb, pecan meal (flour) for $3.50/lb and some walnut meal (haven't tried it yet) for $1.75/lb and fancy shredded unsweetened coconut for $2.00/lb. I ordered 20 pounds of stuff, so shipping was FREE. Service was very good. The only sad part is I ordered macademia nuts and they were all out! They list dry roasted ones for $7.00/lb, and I don't know if they're the really big creamy ones or not. Anybody know? Hope this helps! Carol
