Thanks, to both of you! I found a local store that carries LorAnn Oils. Hopefully they carry the peach flavor. I really want to make Locarbman's Southern Comfort.

ooh lowcarb southern comfort! OK, I used to be a bartender and when I was a cocktail drinker, my favorite old-fashioned kinda drink was a "Scarlett O'Hara", that is cranberry juice, southern comfort and a splash of Rose's Lime Juice ....
This could totally be made lc .... with: Pomegranate Cranberry crystal light Locarbman's SoCo Real lime juice Liquid Splenda Hmmmmmm ....... p.s. Locarbman, I was being a little dramatic .. I actually enjoy a good whiskey straight up ... but there have defeinitely been times when a cocktail was in order! lol! |

What Is Propylene Glycol Overview - References, Advice, News, Videos, Coping & Support References state that Propylene Glycol is a colorless, viscious, sweet substance (similar to Glycerine), however, I would be sure that your product is USP grade rather than industrial grade for use in foods and I do not know just how sweet it is (this would determine how much you would need to replace the glycerine which is 75% as sweet as sugar). I am comfortable in using the LorAnn flavorings due to the very small amounts required to flavor my recipes. Hope this helps, and please let us know what you decide... ;-) |

Hi Julie,
Here is a site I have found helpful for drink ideas and recipes... The Webtender - Cocktail & Mixed Drink Recipes and Bartending Guide I tried a number of different recipes several years ago but have pretty much stayed with the Southern Comfort since. You know the basic ingredients...let your imagination be your guide ;-) I'm going to try Pauline's Scarlett O'Hara and look forward to trying favorites posted by others...this is going be lots of fun! ;-) |

Whaaaa??????
Are you telling me straight vodka is NO CARBS????
Oh man, I'm gonna be in trouble, but it will be happy trouble! (I know it DOES have carbs, and I thought once that maybe alcohol carbs are different, but can someone confirm they do not interfere with low carb weight loss???) |

Just for the heck of it, I looked it up.
Vodka, whisky, gin, grappa, cognac, rum or any other distilled alcohol, with no sugar added (all turned into alcohol) have zero carbohydrates. Beer has lots and so does wine (red more than white, but still a lot.) A good rule-of-thumb is anything even slightly sugary or malty has carbs. Alcohol is sugar in another form (better, I'd say) and not a calorie is lost. You still get the energy. But no carbs, natch. The carbs have all been magically turned into booze. However, they severely delay weight loss. I guess they keep the liver too busy. All those "empty calories" must bounce about a lot. Atkins died before he'd come to a conclusion on the matter, though I remember him recommending a glass of vodka rather than beer, wine or, supreme sin, fruit juice. But booze not only delays fat loss; it withholds water and puffs you up......Ann |

Thanks Ann. I did a little research too - it seems that alcohol alone may not spike cravings as carbs may, but since it lowers resistance, that may be worse. And the body will burn the alcohol calories before fat.
I got back from a little trip to a bed and breakfast, cocktail hour every evening, GAINED FIVE POUNDS IN FOUR DAYS!!! However, I was drinking three or four glasses of wine per event plus who knows how many "appetizers" (like I need those lol). On the weekend, I may risk an ounce of vodka in a diet soda, call me wild and crazy lol but nothing more - after a strict week, I got the weight back off but was not fun trying to make up lost ground. |
