WOE: Crack the fat~lose code
Start Date: March 31,2007 re~start July 2008
Lost, gained, losing again! HELP!

Hi i am new here! I really need support and help through my new journy! I lost116 pounds! BUT I had gained 73 pounds back!

I will be completely honest, even though it shames me! I had gastric bypass surgery in the year 2000. I lost 40 pounds in four months, then we were pregnant! Only to lose the baby at almost 5 months along, (not due to the surgery), could not loose any weight for the next 4 months, then to our surpirse, we were pregnant again!! We carried this baby to term and had our third daughter! In Feb of 2002!

By this point I was "past" the point of the major weight loss from the surgery! They say the most rapid is general in the first year! So I started reading doctor Atkins! Loved the man for all he has done for us! I started the diet when your youngest was about a month old I guess. With in the next 7 to eight months I lost the remainder, about 76 pounds! I felt on top the world while on this diet! I felt GREAT inside! Very surprising how is can make you feel alive!

Well long story short, I have had 6 surgeries in the a matter of 3 years, the last of which was a hystorectomy! I gained rapidly, I think alot was from depression and the surgeries! I also committed to quiting smoking, which i did , but batteled the struggle, my hubby still smoked! I gained 39 lbs throught the struggle, but I did win the battle with smoking and it willbe two yrs the day before my birthday this yr that I had my last smoke! I( stopped July 12th 2005)

I had battle trying to getmyself back on Atkins, but could not seem to commit to it! Not sure the reason!

Then I awoke, April 8th 2006 to our home inglufed in flames! I praise God for saving us all with no more than 2nd degree burns to our oldest daughter! We were all upstairs and could not go down due to the fire, we went out on the back roof and were rescued off the roof, by a young man passing by on his early morning commute to work! Everything was lost even our pets! We were all saved by the grace of God and i an very thankful! But I went through major anxiety and drpession! One of the meds I went on was Lexapro and for me the weight just started piling on! I think between the mes and the emotional depression it was unstopable!

BUT We went to my youngest cousins wedding on March 3oth of this year! My Dad taking pictures, I sat there scanning through what he had already taken and wondered who was sitting mith my Husband, Pat! low and behold it was me!!! I went home in tears and crushed! I did not realize i had gotten to this stage! After all the things I had done to loose the weight and I had not even been able to open my eyes and see myself!

March 31st, 2007 was my change! I started back on my Atkins way! I am only down 15.4 pounds, seems rather slow but I have nopt really been as strict as I should! But all and all, I would rather what I have lost than to have gained this much!

I really have been long winded and I am sorry! I really need support to keep losing! I have been at a stand still for near two weeks now!

I would love to have others to email and chat for the support! Pleasse let me know if anyone is interested!
Thanks and God bless
Vicki

Hi Vicki, it sounds like you have really had a time of it trying everything you can to lose the weight..I can sure identify with the frustration, and especially when a person gets stuck for a while..that's a really hard time...I've been doing a type of low carb...a little different than Atkins..but have had some success..stil need to lose about 30 pounds.I would be glad to listen to whatever you need to talk about, and try to encourage you to hang on and get thru a plateau...for me those are the times I just want to chuck the eating plan and say what's the use...but, I've made it thru a few of those and found I just had to make some adjustments to start losing again...so hang in there and remember you've done this before and you can do it again....also, you can get where you want to be..it will happen for you..... jerri

My gosh, Vicky, what a story!

I first want to say you have nothing of which to be ashamed. Lots of people have done the gastric bypass surgery in the ongoing effort to lose weight. What's done is done - just stay healthy.

Next, I'd like to mention I have been trying to get to goal via the low-carb lifestyle for 10 yrs. That's what did it for me when I realized a few weeks ago how long it's been. Sure, there were lots of other things that motivated me to try again, like arthritis, fibro, and constant, deep pain. I didn't want to live like that anymore, and doctors weren't helping me. Somehow, I realized on a deeper level than I ever have that I must do this MYSELF, and I have to do this FOR myself. I've always been determined but this time...something "clicked." I am convinced I am going to make goal this time!

So think about what really motivates you. (This one, believe it or not, took me awhile). I knew I wanted to lose the weight, but what would motivate me every day, every week, every month?

I decided to set short term goals for myself. I told myself, "This week, I will lose at least 5 lbs." You may lose more, but promise yourself that you will drop at least 5 lbs. Then do whatever it takes, each and every day, to hit that weekly goal.

It may be as simple as remembering to drink all your water. It may mean skipping the cheese in the eggs. It may mean dropping the onions and tomatoes. It may mean dropping red meats and eating only chicken and turkey and fish. It may mean having a very basic, all-protein, no carb week. Whatever it may be, make the plan work for YOU. We have to talk to ourselves and plan strategies every day to get the body to cooperate.

Every day, type in a private or public journal. Knowing that others are keeping an eye on you, watching for your successes and feeling empathy with your stalls, really means so much. On the other hand, you might want to "talk" about things that you don't want anyone else to see. Whatever it takes, but write!

Aim to reward yourself with little things for each goal you meet. For example, when you hit your weekly goal, do something that will help you meet the next one: Buy a low-carb recipe book you've been wanting, try a different kind of exercise that day, or come up with a new weekly challenge for yourself (like upping it to 10 lbs. down in 1 week!). You get the idea!

Stuck on a plateau? Go back to Induction, cut out all carbs (remember, it's UP to NO MORE THAN 20 carbs a day but there is nothing that says we HAVE to eat 20 carbs a day!) and see what happens. Less carbs mean faster, quicker, stronger ketosis. Eat lean proteins (chicken, turkey, fish - try to avoid red meat) but only to satisfaction, not a stuffed feeling. Drink 6-8 pts. of water a day. Give yourself at least 3 full days of doing this and you'll be in strong ketosis, hitting the potty, and watching the scale move down again.

I'll be rooting for you!

About the Kimkins ... I just read about it a week or so ago and am intrigued. Is it that much better than regular Atkins?

Hi, Gramma!

I doubt whether we'd all agree upon which WOE is better than the other. It's really a matter of what works for your body.

I am switching between the two since my bodily so easily adapts to low-carbing and then stalls out. So far, I've gone from Kimkins to it stricter version called KE (Kimmers Experiment - unlimited lean proteins, no carbs) and then back to Kimkins with an Atkins twist (the twist being allowing myself real fats, like butter and olive oil, instead of low-fat sprays like Pam).

Btw, there is more info on the actual Kimmers diet on these boards...I think it's called "Other Plans."

Hope this helped!

Vicky-you have been through so much! You are a very strong woman for coming through the things you have been through! You can harness that strength and use it to meet your weight loss goals. 15 lbs in 2 1/2 months is nothing to be ashamed of either. It is a wonderful start!

Divine Miss M has some great advice. You should also read the post in the main lobby for ideas and support.

You can do this! We are all here to help each other! Good luck!

Hi Vicky, I wanted to wish you all the best on this next phase of your weightloss journey, and I hope that your daughter is recovering well.
I too, have had a year full of challenges & setbacks & am now on my 3rd day of being back on LC again. I felt that with all the trauma & bad luck of this past year, it would be selfish of me to concentrate so much energy on myself - to lose weight. But I know that the better my health, the more energy & support I'll be able to give to those who need me most.
Good luck & happiness to you.
Carline
