It's possible!

Hello everyone,
Back in March of 2004, my marriage was falling apart. At the time I weighed 380 pounds. I was 6' 1" tall. I had suffered a heart attack in 1999, but it wasn't because of my weight as much as it was because of a birth defect that was corrected in surgery. I was lucky to have lived through it. Even luckier that my heart appeared to have suffered no damage.
As I said, my marriage was falling apart. My wife was having an affair. I was losing my home and my 3 daughters. I was going out of my mind.
I had to get out of the house, so I started walking. I walked every night until I felt at peace with myself, then I would walk back to the house. By April, we had come to a settlement and I moved out the house. I was devastated. So I walked even more.
Walking was my therapy.
I was drinking water non stop and eating only one meal a day. My one meal a day was a huge dinner. It was completely low carb EXCEPT for the sweetened tea.
I lost 90 pounds in the first 13 months. I went from 380 to 290.
I continued to walk to this day. I still pretty much stick to one meal a day. Believe me, what I eat is not for the light hearted! I eat a BIG meal. Now it's April of 2007. I weight 250 now. I'm not even trying to lose any. But now I've decided to go for another 40 pounds by Christmas.
What's my secret? I weighed myself twice a day EVERY day. I paid attention to what I ate in relationship to what I saw on the scale.
Try it. I mean REALLY try it. It works.
Sincerely,
Chris

Interesting intake plan...congrats on getting it all together.

Sometimes walks to nowhere have the best outcome.

That's whats great about this forum. Something works for you and you share it. Many here would probably advise to eat throughout the day to keep your metabolism going at a higher rate ALL day long but if something works for you, who am I to say it is not right? Congrats on the loss and maintanence.

I'm so sorry to hear of what you went through, but congratulations on how you handled it! And on your weight loss, too.

It's interesting, the one meal per day thing---there's some speculation that Intermittnet Fasting (basicaly what you're doing) has some remarkable health benefits aside from weight loss (which it might slow, as Steve mentioned): reduced blood pressure, blood sugar, increased insulin sensitivity, along with a similar benefit of longevity as is reaped from longer term caloric deprivation. Mike Eades (Protein Power) has a couple blog posts on it.

Good luck in getting the next 40 off!!

Eating once a day

Many here have heard about the One sub a day weight loss of Jared. It sounds like you have done a simular WOE and Congratulations on all those theraputic walks they were what kept you going in some way since you got your endorphins(the feel good hormones) going and they were great for you at that most difficult time. A constructive reaction to your crisis.

I was watering up when I read that you had to leave where you lived...so sorry to hear that happened to you. Here I will pray that you can continue your relationship with your girls they need their father you are not replacable.

Kudos to you for your achievement thus far. You are an inspiration!

Blessings!
Cori
