Size 22 to a Size 4!

You can do it too!

I've been asked lately to post my story so, here goes:

I will start my "diet" on Monday. On Monday, I will begin.......MONDAY will be the DAY, how many times have I said that to myself I thought. Too many times to count. And, Monday, NEVER came.

Turning 40 will change you. I had a light bulb moment on April 1, 2003. I realized that I was going to turn 40 in 13 months. I was tired and disgusted with my weight. I was fat a miserable. I was tired of being fat. I thought to myself, do you want to turn 40 fat or fit? I chose fit and never looked back. I was motivated. Willpower has nothing to do with this. Find something to motivate you!

The very next day it was a Wednesday, by the way, not a Monday, I BEGAN. I just woke up that morning and said, THIS is it. Trust me, when you are really READY, NOTHING will stop you! No obstacles, no situations. I survived many family issues going through this journey. The difficult pregnancy and birth of my first grandson for one. Training classes, delays in airport, family vacations, business trips, unexpected get together’s, holidays – NOTHING, no situation made me want to go off plan.

I saw my goal and kept my eye on the goal. Hubby even said that to someone at a Christmas party one year, they said “oh, just try this its so good”. Hubby said, “she won’t, she has her eye on the goal”. I spun around quickly and looked at him and he was grinning ear to ear. I kissed him!

As of today, I've lost 106 pounds on the Atkins (WOL) way of life. I began my journey 22 months ago. What a journey. I just love this WOL! I lost the majority of my weight in 14 months – a whopping 96 pounds! The rest is coming off very slowly but, that is to be expected. I do get discouraged by that, sometimes. But, then I have a little pep talk with myself. What is the alternative, I ask myself? Keep going or, go back! No way in hell I’m going back….so, I keep on going!

At 39, and having had a weight problem all my life, I had tried every diet out there, some worked, some didn't. On the Atkins plan I never feel hungry, unless of course, I forget to eat for hours and hours. I can't believe I forget to eat! I went from a size 22 to size 4 jeans! I contribute this to my eating plan and weight training.

When I first began my journey I didn't tell a soul, not even my husband. Why? Fear of failure, again. Haven't I tried dieting in the past? Could I be successful? Would I be? I was so afraid of failing. But, I was afraid of the number on the scale more, 240 lbs. I felt like I could do anything for 2 weeks, so I gave it a try. Today I am 134 lbs.

I am 40 now and life is great. I'm so much more active and I love shopping now. Trying on all the new clothes is so awesome. I can now go into a store and buy something I WANT and not just because it’s the only thing in my SIZE! I was shopping recently and the saleswoman helping me said "you're so tiny, you can wear this". I almost kissed her. No one has ever called me tiny before!

My success kept me going. Seeing the number on the scale continue to go down. And, my clothes kept getting bigger and bigger. One thing I knew I had to do was lose fast. At 240 lbs I needed to see results quickly. I was afraid of getting discouraged if I didn't. I don't believe that you can lose weight too quickly. I think it’s a huge motivator.

When people see my success they just have to ask "how"? I love to talk about the Atkins WOL! One piece of advice I'd like to share is stay away from the frankenfoods they will get you in trouble.

My husband, who has never had a weight problem, has been my biggest supporter. He works out with me, he encourages me, he listens to my ups and downs. He has joined me in following the Atkins plan and has dropped a few pounds himself. One thing I to say to myself to help me get through is "you know what cookies taste like". I told someone recently, nothing can ever taste as good as fitting into my size 4 jeans!

You have to have the right attitude to succeed on any healthy weight loss plan and it has to be a change for LIFE.

Thank you Dr. A!

Donna

I was reading your story and I have to tell you...it could have been me you were writing about! Your thoughts and feelings matched mine to a T !!! If I were to write my inspiration story it would be almost exactly like yours. I weighed 184 lbs and now weigh 137 lbs ( 5 lbs come and go now and then). But other than that I'm right there with you..."nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". I've kept that saying in my head through my journey it really works for me.

Keep up the good work

You look so amazing! I have read your story several times, but I've never taken the time to give you the praise you deserve.
What a great story and transformation. We started at the same weight (240 lbs.) and are close in age (I'm 38), so I really identify with you. I've lost 101 lbs. (down to 139 lbs.) and am in a size 6. You are my role-model, because I'm aiming for that size 4; I want it bad! Thanks for showing that it can be done, and that great joy can be found in the journey!

Donna,
You brought tears to my eyes.
Thanks you for sharing.
I am a size 22 and my 1st goal is a
loose 18.
I, too, am not telling anyone about my "starting again".
Just me and this board.
What gave you so much drive and determination?
Has this board helped you?
Bless.

Your story really motivates me! It makes me feel that I can do it too. I'm currently 5'6", 294, and it's so overwhelming to think about how much I have to lose to get to where I want to be. Today is the first day of my new WOL (not "diet), and this low-carb thing is already very, very hard. But wonderful stories like yours really makes me want to focus on the goal. You look great, and congratulations again on your success. One day I'll be right there with you!
