Sweetener recommendation if you don't like the cooling effect of Erythritol

Natural Mate Sucralose & Erythritol Calorie Free Sweetener (oops it didn't link: http://www.netrition.com/natural_mate_sucralose.html )
I am surprised. It has no cooling, tastes very much like real sugar and was great in a cinnamon walnut MIM. I even sprinkled a little on top with melted butter and tossed it under the broiler and got a nice sugary crust on top.

I've been using this too. I love it. I think it's far superior to Swerve and you use half as much.

I've wondered about this one... I usually combine erythritol and sucralose on my own. Glad to see a review of this product

Just added it to my order. I made a no bake cheesecake with Sweet Perfection yesterday and although the taste was fine, my tummy grumbled all night.

What do you mean by "cooling effect"?

Kind of like eating a mint. That whoosh feeling you get when you breath in. I hope that makes sense. It's quite obvious with the Swerve, but not necessarily bad, depending on the food item.

I didn't know that. I never get the cooling effect with Ideal which is splenda and xylitol. Always wanted to try swerve but haven't.

I think it's only with erythritol as the main sweetener. I haven't tried that many sweeteners. But yes, I felt the Swerve was quite strong with it's cooling effect. My daughter noticed it too.

Many swear they will never use xylitol because it is poisonous to dogs but so is chocolate and I cannot say I have ever heard one woman ever say I will not eat chocolate because it is poisonous to dogs.

I just tell everyone do not feed any of my a/f sweetened treats to the dogs period then I am covered no matter what is in it.

I also so far have been able to find Ideal locally. I do suppose there will come a time where it won't be available

Funny, I find the cooling is at least as bad with xylitol as with erythritol. I never use either for more than half of the sweetener in any recipe because of it. And mixing with Just Like Sugar (fiber) helps the cooling and makes it taste more like actual sugar.

I may actually have more alternative sweeteners than flour substitutes.

That is funny cause I feel (taste) it quite a bit with erythritol but do not with xylitol

How does the Natural Mate compare to Truvia? I've been using Truvia for quite a while, but find it is not as sweet as some other types of AS and I need to use more. I've never tried Swerve, though I've seen it listed for a lot of recipes.

Anyone have any info on the Natural Mate verses Truvia?

TIA!

I don't care for Truvia either Dottie. I am sensitive to that cooling effect. Think I will give this Natural Mate a try with my next Netrition order. Thanks for the information!

I'll add another product I just love: Monin True Brewed Espresso Concentrate.
I love iced coffee, but I tried everything to get a nice concentrate by making my own and it just wasn't quite right.
The Monin is really good, and you can also add a cap full to your regular coffee if you want a stronger flavor
@ $15 a bottle, it comes out to less than $0.50 per serving. I was paying $3.50-$4.50 at coffee houses for an iced coffee

Ok I tried the stevia/E one. Not bad. There's not a prominent stevia taste unless you use too much, but it's a fine line between enough and too much.
Like the sucralose one, it's 2x sweeter than regular sugar, so you only use 1/2 as much. I found this was true on the sucralose one, but the stevia one is not as sweet (to me).

Made cheesecake muffins with my natural mate, very good. They did crystallize just a tiny bit after being in fridge overnight but otherwise, thumbs up. No cooling taste
