Thank you, Cfine. That recipe just amazes me and my husband again and again. So many possibilities.

Yes, as Ouiz said, my brother passed away last week. It was a most aggressive form of bone marrow/blood cancer and it took him within 2 months of confirmed diagnosis. I am doing better now, and thank God that my mother's dementia took a rear seat to the strong woman she has been over the years. She is dealing with the loss amazingly well. He was always the brightest candle in any roomful of people and those whose lives he touched over the years will miss him greatly.

Ahhh Butoni,

I wish to express my sincerest condolences… I know what you are going through. My Auntie Evelyn Esther Hill passed March 4th at age 98. In preparation for her funeral I found this lovely poem “LIFE BETWEEN THE “DASH” by Linda Ellis:

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning…to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all was the “dash” between those years.

For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth…
And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own; the cars…the house…the cash,
What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our “dash”.

So think about this long and hard…are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough to consider what’s true and real,
And always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile…
remembering that this special “dash” might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy’s being read with your life’s actions to rehash…
would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your “dash”?

My deepest sympathy,

locarbman

Oh, thank you for sharing that poem, Lowcarbman. A lot of truth there. His "dash" was 67 years long and he said this month he had no regrets about his life, knew he impacted his ESL students and those he played harpsichord publicly for in the Seattle area. His career at Boeing was stellar. He mentored and guided many who struggled economically. Those he cooked for as a professional chef were no doubt impacted. And leaving this world having positively impacted others is all any of us can hope for. BTW, the month prior to the onset of his illness, he was house hunting in Spokane with every intention of relocating there very soon. He loved Spokane! But he had to set that plan aside when the diagnosis came through and stay in Tulalip.

Condolences on the loss of your brother, Peggy, brothers are very special to us. Thinking of you and your family at this time. Support your Mom, losing a child is devastating to a parent no matter how old that "child" may be.

Peggy, I know it takes a while to get over the death of a family member. Hopefully, you are your mom are able to move through all the grief and adjustments in due time. It does take a while.

Thank you, Jane. I thought I was doing much better this week and then I heard Sara McGlaughlin's "In the Arms of an Angel" on TV this morning and the tears just welled up again. It is gonna take time.

Thank you S&P and Laura. Each morning I find myself still in disbelief he is gone. There was so little time from diagnosis to his passing.

Thank you so much Ann. I miss him already. He was such wonderful counsel on legal and business questions. We were playmates growing up and always looked to each other for advice and suggestions, through the years. I especially turned to him for advice after my father died and my Mom developed dementia. I'll have to make all those legal, business and health decisions for Mom without his valued input now. But my husband has been a great help in all those decisions, too, thank God and will now be my only advisor.
