cheap but tender/flavorful steak suggestions

DH has a steak salad everyday for lunch, but I am finding that by the time I cook the fattier steaks there is not much meat left for the salads. He likes lean meat in the salad, he will eat fatty steaks grilled though. Any suggestions on a more economical way to make tender steak for the salads? Thank you

Maybe get some deli roast beef, shaved, instead? Price wise, depending on how much he has on his salads, 2lbs at about $5-$6 a pound would last a whole week and you don't have to worry about prep

If a roast is on sale, maybe he'd be happy with that instead of steak. Flank steak or london broil would work too. Cook it in the crock pot until tender.

Tri tip. My DH does the same thing with the salads.

Try an eye of the round roast - roast or rotisserie it to medium rare - let it cool, then slice it thinly. It is quite lean and very flavorful, but you need to slice it thinly for it to be tender to chew.

I second this suggestion. They remind me of ribeyes, but at half the price.

I found this is a good way to improve cheaper cuts of beef
(it won't do anything for "better" cuts):

Steak Recipe: Turning Cheap "Choice" Steak into Gucci "Prime" Steak | Steamy Kitchen Recipes

Cutting against the grain makes any meat seem more tender, too!
