Is Anyone Familiar with VitaFiber?

Today, I was searching the web for ideas on how to make homemade Quest type protein bars. I ran across one that linked to a product called VitaFiber...

The product website says:

"VitaFiber™ is a food ingredient like no other: it's a low-calorie sweetener that does so much more.

Not only sweet, it contains 90% dietary fiber made from natural sources. VitaFiber™ makes it easy to reduce sugar and add healthy fiber to your diet with one ingredient. VitaFiber™ has been successfully selling into the food ingredient market for a decade, within products such as beverages, protein bars, yogurts, baked goods, chocolate and candy. Our product is very safe for consumption and has safety approvals in the US, Canada and Europe.

Given the great demand, we now offer VitaFiber™ to the consumer market directly."

From what I can tell, it seems to be an isomalt product. It comes in powder and syrup form (I seem to remember Kevinpa experimenting with an isomalt syrup quite a while back). Not sure what shipping costs are, but it's $14 for 1kg of the syrup and $50 fo5 5kg.

I'm thinking the syrup, especially, might be very versatile in baking, but I wanted to know if anyone else has experience using this product before I take the plunge...

As of today (3/29/10) I have lost 65 pounds!!! 35 more to go!

I don't know much about it. I read some via google and it says it's great for baking and goes under the name of Sweet It.
It may go by other names as well.
Isomalt works well when I have used it.
I hope that helps.

I came across the same website today and was wondering what the possible gut reaction might be to this product. Was thinking about making the quest bar knock offs.

Just wanted to say that isomalt is not the same thing as isomalto-oligosaccharides. Isomalt is a sugar alcohol, the other is a sweet tasting fiber. The names are related to the chemical structures, as far as I know, but not related to each other.

Because these two different things having similar names and purposes couldn't possibly be confusing.

For me, 17 g of isomalto-oligosaccharides (rough amount in a Quest Bar) is not a problem at all, but 17 g of Isomalt is a night spent on the toilet!

Found another source online, I think

I found Sweet-It VitaFiber IMO Syrup online and it appears to come from the U.S. Does this look to be the same as the product that came direct from the company?
