Cheese Cake Factory cheese cake question

The instructions say after you bake it for an hour and 15 min, turn the oven off and open the door and let it cool for an hour in the oven before removing it. Is the long cool down in the oven really necessary ? I am planing on cooking a ham at the same time and it would be more convient to start them at the same time then pull the cake out and let the ham continue to cook.

I'd be leery of baking a cheesecake with a ham....cheesecakes tend to absorb odors and flavors.

I agree with penguin power, it would be a pretty hammy cheesecake if you did that!

EW....I just made this cheesecake last night. It was so hot here( 87F) I did not want to open the oven door to let all the hot air out in the kitchen. I just took the cheesecake out and let it cool on the counter. Turned out just great!

I think the reason for opening the oven door is to prevent the top of the cheesecake from cracking.
