I've been happy with Bob's Red Mill, though they are not white chia seeds.

Costco has Nutiva Chia Seeds and is running a coupon sale on them (9.99/2 lbs.) as part of their organics sale, 4/21- 5/18 (if you belong or have a friend who does).

Thank you. That's what I ended up ordering because of price and I've been happy with other Bob's Red Mill products.

That's a good price. Dang I wish I saw this before I ordered. I might just have my daughter pick some up for me. I'm going to have chia seeds coming out of my ears.

Do you know what is the shelf life for them?

I've had some for about six months, and they still are fine, from what I can tell. I just keep them in a large glass jar in the pantry, with a screw on top.

Thank you. I thought they would have a long shelf life. Do you know if you can freeze them?

I usally buy them by the pound and I also keep them in the pantry in a screw top jar. I've never frozen them but I do freeze tree nuts & seeds.

Thank you. I don't know what I was thinking buying 3 lbs. I don't even know if I will like them.

When you say you put them on everything, could you give me some ideas? Do you make the gel or just use them as is? TIA

I use mine mainly for chocolate chia pudding (I call it crunchy pudding). A nice simple dessert, that doesn't affect either my blood sugar or weight loss. Keeps me full for a while, too.

Don't worry. They won't go bad. I put 1 Tbs per pound of meat for meatballs and meatloaf. Holds in the juices. I have a recipe for a no-cook chocolate coconut protein bar with chia seeds, if you are interested.

Thank you. Yes I would love the recipe, it's sounds delicious. Do you make a gel and use that or just the seeds?

I've seen puddings. They look good. So the crunch isn't off putting? I made some gel and put it in meatloaf last night. I couldn't tell it was even there, which I'm considering a good thing.

I just throw the seeds in with the meat. You can grind them first if you prefer, but in the long simmering I usually do, they cannot be seen nor tasted.
Chocolate Chia Coconut Bar Bette
¼ cup coconut oil
2 ½ T cocoa
¼ cup erythritol, measured then ground to powder
1/6 cup coconut Davinci’s sf syrup
Put these 4 ingredients into a bowl. Nuke for 1-2 minutes to make a chocolate syrup and melt the erythritol. Then add
1 T chia seeds
¾ cup unsweetened coconut
¼ t vanilla
dash of salt
3 T coconut flour
¼ c whey protein
6 drops of splenda
Mix all ingredients. Put into 5 or 6 molds. Refrigerate until set, about 20 minutes.

I just did an internet search on that. One source says 4-5 years. Another says 2-3 years on a shelf and 4+ refrigerated. Another source says 5 years shelf life. I've always heard (before looking it up) that it was a long, long time.

That price is $4 off the normal price which is still less than any other place I've found.

The crunch doesn't bother me, though it is there. I just think of it as a Nestle Crunch Bar pudding.

I like the Whole Foods brand, 365. I'm a little suspicious of the fact that it has 11g carbs and 11g fiber for 3 TBSP, but it's a good size container for my pantry and I can't remember the price but I think it was reasonable.

I use them in a dairy-free chocolate bars.
In meatloaf and wild game meatloaf.
In low carb coconut flour breads.
In quick breads.
On green salads, really good in egg salad, tuna salad and in low carb cauliflower potato salad.

I know there is others I use it in.

Thank you all for the ideas and recipes. So far I have just made a gel. Since I'm using the black seeds, the gel is not very appealing looking. Grayish ick. Though I didn't notice it much in a couple things I've tried.

Mostly I keep forgetting to use them. I'm going to have to park them on the counter for awhile until I develop a habit of reaching for them.
