Agave 5

I'm always looking for new low-carb sweeteners, since they tend to be pricey. Today I came across a 5-calorie/tsp syrup from Madhava called Agave 5. It's a combination of agave, stevia and monkfruit. Has anyone else tried it? If so, what does it taste like?

I haven't tried it, but I avoid Agave because it's higher in fructose than high-fructose corn syrup. Not sure about the blend you're asking about though, I guess it would depend on what percentage the agave is of the total. Monkfruit is primarily fructose and glucose, so I will avoid that one too. Sorry!

I'm with Char on that one. I won't use monk fruit, too carbie for me. As for agave, nope. Fructose isn't good for your liver, in any form. Sounds like they are trying to repackage both monk fruit and agave to seem healthier.

Nope I won't use agave. It's hard trying to find the ones that will work for you.

When you say monk fruit's too carby for you, do you mean the stuff like In the Raw or Nectresse, where they add extra crap and fillers, or just monk fruit in general?

I've seen a few products around like EZ-Sweetz Stevia & Monk Fruit and Norbu, which is just erythritol and monk fruit. I haven't tried either yet, but they seem slightly more trustworthy...

Yes and yes. I have a 'monk fruit' sweetener now that is part monk fruit and part erythritol. The carbs are 2 per half a teaspoon. It doesn't tell me that it's sugar alcohol. The ingredients are erythritol and monk fruit extract. They say the 2 carbs is erythritol.

But, monk fruit is fructose/glucose and hits your liver. So, I would avoid this anyway.

Didn't even think of that! You'd think it's such a small amount that the fructose would hardly matter, but then with a serving size of half a TEASPOON, haha! Might as well just have erythritol alone, seriously!
