Crock pot chicken soup- yea or nay?

My first question is: I thought it was a brilliant idea to make a chicken soup/stock, from a FROZEN chicken, tonight (overnight) in the crockpot.

Am I going to die from some weird bacterial thing? I believe the high setting gets to 300 degrees...I'd think that would boil everything to death, yes?

Assuming I don't (I know I'll have to skim or filter it later), here's what I did:

1 frozen chicken
2 big carrots
1 parsnip
1/2 green pepper
A bunch of sad old celery (mostly the inside stalks, say 1/2 a bunch)
2 smallish yellow onions

Chop the veggies roughly (like, onions in half, celery in half, root veggies in chunks, pepper in 4 chunks)
Place around the FROZEN chicken

Cover with water (I think I got 12 cups in, maybe 10)
Turn crockpot on high, set for 8-12 hrs.
Go to bed
Hope this works when you get up
Salt and pepper once you strain the stock.
Use chicken in chicken salad, and chunks in the final soup too.

I put a rimmed baking sheet under the crockpot in case it bubbles over.

Let me know if you think his is epically bad?

I don't think it will be bad.

You can always strain the fat from the broth.
Take the chicken off. If there is any doubt about bacteria,
you can put the broth in a stock pot and bring it up to a boil
to kill of any bacteria. I cooked a whole chicken in my crockpot
on crinkled up foil and it was falling off the bone.

This is always a thing that crosses my mind when I cook anything in the crockpot.
I mean, what a bacterial bonanza, right? Raw meat, very slow to heat up .
Oh I do it, all the time, and *knock on wood* we've never gotten sick - but the thought it always there.

Thanks folks

I came down this morning and it smells like chickens soup. the chicken is cooked and falling apart, it was bubbling (I had turned it down to low, after rereading a section in Dana Carpender's slow cooker book about how low actually gets to boiling... I remember this from my apple butter semi-fiasco, but that's another story..)

I think we'll be ok. I just didn't want to do more harm than good, since my DH is coughing up a storm, ya know?
