OMG Hemp Hearts!

I think I'm in love with hemp hearts (hemp seeds with husks removed). I hear it can render positives on drug testing, but I'm rertired, so what the heck would I care about that? LOL They only have 170 cals, 3g carbs, 3g fiber, 0 Net carbs per 3 Tablespoons! And they have the most wonderful peppery, nutty taste! I bought them ages ago but just this week finally opened the bag and tasted them.

I initially bought them to add to smoothies for their health benefits, but I don't do smoothies very often other than in summer time. But I can clearly see they'll make a wonderful substitute for bulgher wheat in tabouleh salad, filler potential in meatballs and meatloaves, in hot or cold breakfast cereal recipes, ground up and added to baked goods like flax. They're pricey, as I recall, but sooooo good. I love when I find something new and versatile to add to my baking/cooking "arsenal" that is not only healthy, but actually tastes GOOD!

I'm so glad you told us about this ingredient. I have seen it in some recipes and had no idea what it was like.

I use this alot Peggy. And sometimes Hemp protein powder.

The seeds are really good in your cracker recipe that I made.

Yes, I'd already thought about cracker possibilities. And I'll bet they're good in seed-based candies and protein bars. They made a great addition to my stuffed peppers I made tonight (I used plain rice in hubby's, because they apparently don't play well with Coumadin). I'm eager to try these on salads, too.
