Help! Best way to shred jicama please

Hi,

I have peeled some jicama, but am not sure the best, least time-consuming way to shred it.

Any help would be appreciated.

After peeling, I've always used a hand grater. Not time consuming at all. One time I did one in my food processor, but the clean-up isn't worth it for just 1 jicama.

I'm lazy. I use the food processor with the shredding blade. Then I put the bowl and stuff in the dishwasher!

I used it to make two things. I made jicama hashbrowns. I used Carolyn's recipe as a base, but then tweaked, as we all tend to do here

I was only intending to make the hashbrowns/patties, but I thought of an idea, so I reserved half of the jicama and made a jicama 'fried rice!' It was really tasty. I hardly ever eat rice, so it was nice to have a 'rice' to go with stuff again.

Let me know if any of you want any of the recipes. I'll gladly post.

Absoloutely

We want your yummy recipes!

Sometimes when I buy a jicama, DH slices it very thin on the mandolin
slicer. Then we deep fry it like chips. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and onion
powder. You cannot stop eating them. So delish.

What's the taste of jicama comparable to? If it tasted like another raw veggie, what would it be?

The closest comparison that I can make is to an unripe pear--you know, the really crunchy, kind of hard pears that aren't very sweet yet. Usually we cut it into strips and sprinkle with lime juice. It's great on green salads or as part of a fruit or veggie tray.

Depending upon how jicama is prepared and seasoned or spiced, it can be a great sub for apples, potatoes. I even made it into a very neutral tasting rice.

Barbo, I promise I will post the recipes. I am having technical difficulties transferring the pics from my cell phone to my pc. Stay tuned

Tracy
